Sport Can kids eat Whey Protien shakes too?

Sport Fitness
Great forum!

Sometimes when I make whey shakes, I make them with a lot of ice and soy milk, a scoop of whey powder and able to fill at least 2.5 cups. I drink them once before and after workouts. Sometimes the kids ask if they can have some so I make them a separate smoothie without the whey. But it would be much easier if I just gave them some of mine because I'm not sure about the whey powder. I currently use the ON 100% Gold Standard Vanilla Ice Cream flavor.

Thanks,
s-one

How old are the kids? Each serving probably contains as much as 20-30 grams of protein.

Don't quote me on this, but protein is converted into amino acid, which is then transferred to make muscle in your body. With excess protein, your body converts it to fat. Having excess protein in your body can cause long-term problems because your body works hard to get rid of the protein it doesn't need anymore.

So if your children are getting the proper amount of protein, this excess protein can cause harm in the long run. But I'm guessing 1 or 2 every now and then wouldn't hurt.

*ouch* ok well I best not... because this is in the morning and who knows what's going to be in their diet throughout the day. (School, snacks, etc..) They are 5 and 6. Thanks for responding.

I think its the other way around. Amino Acids are the building blocks of Proteins. Correct me If I'm wrong.

No dallen is right. The protein is broken down into amino acids and then they are transported to various organs in the blood.

However excess amnio acids have other routes other than fat storage such as glucose and energy.

I think what he means by long term problems is if your contantly give your kids way too much protein everyday is that when breaking down amino acids you have to take out the amino group which is toxic in the body and this isnt good, whoever this is usually excreeted in the urine as urea.

Its up to you really im sure some of your shake wouldnt be to bad, considering your kids could be 12 or 3 months old i dont know?

My bad then.

Well i guess yoru right too haha, they are the building blocks or protein but the proteins from the diet are converted to amino acids and then a number of things such as protein.
