Can fat burning look like this?

Hi

I am a Newbie so I don't really know much about this fitness stuff...

I was wondering, though...

I want to loose fat, but not necessarily weight. I have a "beer belly", but the rest of my body (legs, arms, etc) are pretty lean. I have heard that the ab area is the last place to lose the fat.

I have not done alot of weight training, but am going to begin to help me compete at my sport.

I am eating at maintenance level right now and have been at the same weight for quite a few months.

I have been reading here, and I keep on hearing that you can't build muscle while cutting or when you are at a caloric deficit.

If I do a full body workout 3 times a week, should I loose that fat while still building strength? Do I need to be cutting to lose that fat? If I eat at maintenance level for a "sedate" lifestyle, but add my 3 full body workouts per week, will I loose that fat?

As long as the calories you intake are less then what your body expends then you will lose weight.

If you are currently eating maintenance calories with no exercise, and then add exercise to the equation then yes you will lose weight. This is why there is an activity factor in calculating your required calorie intake.

It is true that you need a calorie surplus to add muscle, however considering you are new to weight lifting you should see muscle gains and strength gains as well as fat loss in the early stages. You muscle growth will plateau however if you continue to eat in deficit.

Unfortunately we cannot choose where the fat leaves the body. Think of it like a draining a pool. The shallower end tends to drain before the larger deeper end. And, generally the lower ab region can be a complication for alot of males--especially after gaining alot of weight. At first, its my opinion that you concentrate on losing the bulk of your tissue before worrying about the last portion.

Think of separating the tissue loss in two segments, The first segment can be where you lose the bulk of tissue through a defcit diet (and weight training), and the second segment is where you could refocus your deficit diet, AND manipulation of the three nutrients, and correct corelation of training.

I have not done alot of weight training, but am going to begin to help me compete at my sport.

You will experience a breif "beginner gain" period where you can grow muscle tissue and have fat tissue loss at the same time--but this is brief, and there are many reasons why this occurs. However, after this period is over, you have to accept some basic and fundelmental facts.

I want you to read this link. I have several posts in this thread that is applicable to your present circumstances, and will save some writing time:

I am eating at maintenance level right now and have been at the same weight for quite a few months.

Why were you eating at MT when trying to lose weight?

I have been reading here, and I keep on hearing that you can't build muscle while cutting or when you are at a caloric deficit.

This is fundelmentally true; however, there are exceptions (beginner gains), and other manipulations in diet that can bring about both at the same time (example a zig-zag diet which is basically running a surplus of calories for a number of days in week and a deficit in calories a number of days in a week).

If I do a full body workout 3 times a week, should I loose that fat while still building strength?

Yes. You want to build strength and give the body a reason to adapt and keep the muscle it has while you are trying to lose fat tissue.

Do I need to be cutting to lose that fat?

Cutting, in the general sense, just means reducing body fat: This, in the basic format, is done though a deficit diet and weight training (and cardio if one chooses).

If I eat at maintenance level for a "sedate" lifestyle, but add my 3 full body workouts per week, will I loose that fat?
