calories per meal

Ok... So, I've been wondering. If I have 5 "meals" a day. But most of them are below 300 calories. (one is about 100 cal snack) And dinner is about 500-600 is that right or wrong?

Should I add another "meal" in there and have a 300 calorie dinner? Not to mention I reward myself at night with popcorn or a small bowl of ice cream (200 calories).

Let's say that just for argument or to make my point more clear. Is it bad if I had 200 calorie meals with a 800 calorie dinner? Should the calories be more evenly distributed. Is a 100 calorie snack even accomplishing the "meal" criteria?

That's a good question, and I have been wondering this myself.

I have been trying to get my breakfast up to 350 as a sort of anchor for the day, and then reduce dinner a bit.

But then, from what I read here, calories are calories no matter the time of day, it all adds up.

My thinking is, dinner should be a heavier calorie meal because it's not likely I will eat again for... oh, twelve hours?

Bodybuilding philosophy started the myth that meal frequency has some magical power of speeding up your metabolism. It doesn't. That is why you will see me say, the ultimate driver of success in the long run is TOTAL CALORIES.

However, I am a fan of figuring out how many calories you need in a day and dividing that number by the number of meals you are going to eat each day. I also am a fan of making that number of meals the largest you can fit comfortably within reasonable limits of course. I currently consume 7.

Once you get the hang of that, you can start timing nutrients. Honestly, I have had the most success with my physique eating carbs, proteins, and fats at every single meal. And for most here, I would recommend doing the same.

But, once you get close to your goals and you want to start leaning out, timing your macros (namely carbs) around certain times of the day (namely training) become a viable option.

I always get protein in at each of my meals. More starchy carbs are focused later in the day FOR ME namely b/c I train later in the day. Earlier in the day, my meals are primarily proteins and fats.

Probably saying too much already.
