Calories in home made pizza

I hope I'm posting this in the right area.

Does anybody know how many calories (approx.) in homemade pizza? I tried to look it up online; Im not really finding anything. Should I just use a calorie counting website and record the calories of all the ingredients I put in the pizza? Or would that be inaccurate because of baking it?

Also, I tried making whole wheat pizza for the first time yesterday, and it wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be. So if anybody is curious, don't bother trying :) (Although I do love and eat only whole wheat toast).

Yeah, the only way you can get an accurate measurement is to count the calories individually. When my wife makes pizza, she uses (as an example): 2 cups flour, 1 packet quick-rise yeast, corn mean...etc.etc. All of these nutrition facts are on the packets or available online from calorie counting websites (based on measurements)... add it all up, and you may get something like 1500 calories for the WHOLE pizza, so it would 1500 divided by the number of slices. Once you see where the calories come from (i.e. pepperoni or other) than you can cut down the calories on those items, and make the crust thinner, use more veggies instead of meat, etc. It may take a bit of work the first time you "count" the calories in a pizza, but once you do that, it will be easy from that point on.

Good luck!

I was hoping there was an easier way than counting the calories of everything I put in there :) But your def. right, the first time I do it it'll be a pain, but then after that, it'll be easy to keep track everytime. And I make pizza once a week so def. worth it!!
Thanks for the advice.

and it doesn't need to be perfect! :)... only about within 20% or so of the actual, so estimate when you can't get exact numbers. If it has 2500 calories and you thought only 2000 then 1/5 of that difference is only 100 calories, not something that is going to make/ break your diet... now if you are eating the whole pizza... :p (I love pizza)... good luck!

The total calories in any pizza would completely depend on the ingredients.

Have you used myfitnesspal?

The barcode scanner makes counting the calories in a pizza super easy if you buy most of your ingredients from the store and use scales.

You can also enter your favorite receipie so you only need to count it once, then next time you simply measure out the same amounts and you can add it in 1 button. This is super fast. I eat pizza all the time ;)
