Calorie Question

I'm on my first loading / bulking phase. I'm new to weight training / body building. After doing some research, asking questions, and perusing the forums. I know now I need to eat more calories.

My question is this, do I need to keep a steady intake level throughout the day? I saw on one of the treads about a "blender bomb" with about 1000 cal...if I do something like that, should I do it right b4 I work out or does that not matter?

I'm 5'10, ~162 lbs, ~8-10% BF. One of the trainers at the gym said I need about 3500 cal./day. Is that excessive or pretty accurate?

The blender bomb sounds good and packed with good calories and way cheaper than buying meal replacements. Anyone got any other good ideas for packin em in for a guy that's always out and around (not usually in the office)?

Thanks so much for any answers or input you give :).

You'll certainly bulk with that kind of intake, I'd imagine that you'll gain fat too though as 3,500 for someone your size sounds like quite a lot (unless you're really active).
Does your trainer work with you directly? If so then I'd trust his advice for now and see where the 3.5k diet and your workouts take you over the next 4 or 5 weeks.

Not directly

He doesn't work with me directly. I joined Golds in April and you get 2 free visits with a trainer. So I'm not paying him...I personally thought 3500 was high too. I was thinking maybe 2500-3000 would be a good start and see where that takes me. I dont wanna get fat, I already have a problem with my belly area. I cant ever seem to tone it up and lose the fat around there. I do understand that I'm gonna get some fat built up, but that's part of the bulking phase right?

Personally, if I were your size I'd try and stick to 3,000 a day to gain weight but everyone's different. You wouldn't get fat overnight from 3,500 though which is why I suggested you try it for a while and see what happens.
How much do you intake now?

Just under 2000, but this week I started adding a PB&J sandwich and a meal replacement (using whole milk). So that should probably bump me to ~3000.

This was my main question...anyone know? :)

a more steady flow of calories will maintain metabolism and blood sugar.
i try to keep meals evenly spaced and roughly the same calorie intake.
