Calorie Burning Tips for Those in a Desk Job

I am getting ready to start my working week this morning, and had in mind all the steps I would be taking in keeping the weight loss in mind while sitting at my desk, which isn’t a very active job. So I thought I would put this thread up for people on here who also work at a desk and are looking for extra ways to burn calories in the office.

1) TAKE THE STAIRS - This one is a bit of a given, but it’s very beneficial. As well as the small aerobic benefit you get, it works on your leg muscles first thing in the morning, so get them moving.

2) GET YOUR DESK PREPPED – If you need to work on files etc, get the files etc all ready at your desk. This 5 minutes or so of work will get you active and get the brain waking up, so you will be ready mentally to tackle your work efficiently.

3) GO FOR GREEN TEA – You can continue to have a tea or coffee as you please, however, green tea is known for flushing toxins out of the body. You may find you are going to the toilet more, but just visualise that’s the toxins leaving your body.

4) SQUATS – Instead of using your arms to help you stand up, sit up straight and lift off your seat with your legs. The muscles working in your quads are big muscles. If you do this multiple times a day they will slightly break down, meaning more calories for repair. Also, the leg muscles when worked release hormones that help burn fat ALL AROUND THE BODY.

5) SNACK HEALTHY – Have a snack in between Breakfast and Lunch then Lunch and Dinner. Eating small and frequently will help keep your metabolism high.

6) JUST SAY NO – If you are beside a vending machine or treats counter in work, try your best to avoid these. Those minutes of eating it may be satisfying, but think how satisfying a great body will be in months’ time.

And last but not least

7) WATER WATER WATER – nuff said!

Try some of these tips over your working week and see how you get on.

Sound like some good tips! :)

I love doing squats at my desk! You can also do wall/desk pushups, print at a printer that you have to walk to, go see people instead of sending an email or IM, and use your coffee/lunch break to do a mini workout! There are also a lot of stretches you can do at your desk too.

Thanks for the tips Bricka

My girlfriend has a big red exercise chair at her house. You could always get one of these, HAHAHAHA...I sit on it when we eat dinner :p
