Calluses

I have some calluses where my hand meets my fingers on both my middle and ring finger from gripping the bar and lifting heavy. They're not that big, but big enough to annoy me. Now, I'm at a point where I don't have to look tough, because I am (lol :p). But I was wondering what has worked for you guys to get them off. And don't suggested picking them =\

I don't wear gloves nor plan on starting. I read pummice stone and/or some hand lotion. What do you guys think?

thx

Best thing I ever did was get the metal file out of the garage and file em' down.

If they get too large they can tear. Anyone who has had that happen can say how much that effects training.

Just got a pummice stone. Let's see if it works...

Yea, Tuesday when I was lifting after, it was starting to rip a little, and I don't want it to tear open. =\

Mine have torn before and it was agony. I put methylated spirits on mine it keeps them small and hard and I dont have any problems with them. Other than that do whateva you do with those files and stuff :D

Use a nail buffer on them. All it is is a block with different sized grit sand paper (kind of like sandpaper) stuff on each side. They come with instructions on how to use them on your nails and the same thing works for calluses. I get calluses from my handlebars a lot and as long as they aren't too bad using a nail buffer on them works. I use one everytime I start to see or feel a callus coming on and it works fine.

Yeah but what good is having a body made out of steel when your hands are soft and easily hurt?

I pick my calluses when they get too big and start flaking.

I have them in the spot you mentioned and on the fingertips of my left hand. (The ones on my fingertips are from playing the guitar). For me, they occasionally just peel off. They never get too big. Filing them down could work, just make sure you keep them moisturized. Also, don't take too much off. If you try to take the whole callus off, your hands will be very sore.

Just wear gloves or some of those foamy grip squares.

When I started exercising I got lots of calluses, and I was always peeling them and fiddling with them before, it looked like a nervous habit or something. So I started training with foam grips and I hardly got anymore after that.

Just use something to soften the grip and the problem goes away.
