cabbage

:D OK, I just bought a head of cabbage......how do I cook this?! LOL I planned on boiling it, but need some help on flavors & spices

There are plenty of nice green veg out there without resorting to that!

uumm its bok choi not pak choi lol sorry i had to correct it. i agree unless you are making cabbage rolls cabbage isn't my fav either and it does smell bad when you cook it.
 
I guess that I'm the odd one out here.... I love boiled cabbage throw it in the pot with some peppercorns and then just eat it up.....I just wouldn't eat it before a date if unless you get some beano.....:)
 
Nope, you're not the odd one out. I love boiled cabbage too - especially white cabbage! Thats the best by far. Lots of pepper and a little bit of butter. Red cabbage is also very tasty.

So, in answer to the original question....chop it up, boil it, then enjoy...

Here in the Netherlands we traditionally chop it up, cook it, mix it with mashed potatos (the fresh kind, not the instant crap) and then serve it with gravy and sausages.
 
I love cabbage rolls and cabbage soup and cabbage itself but during spring and summer I dont usually cook anything that required 2-3 hours of slow cooking. I enjoy in fresh produce.

Anyway, I like to shred about the 1/4 of the cabbage head, season with salt, pepper add a bit of olive oil and vineger and eat as salade. Its great. I love eating it with meats and potatoes.
 
I boil white cabbage in some beef stock and add in some sliced sausage, pepper and salt to taste. Delicious.

you can add it to a roasting pan too, if you're making a roast beef. tastes great, personally i love the smell :D

I love to stir fry cabbage with chicken breast strips. Use a low fat cooking spray like Pam, brown the chicken, season with pepper and a little salt. Add the cabbage and cook until the cabbage is soft. You can add some low salt soy sauce for more taste.
 
You guys are crazy that don't like cabbage. Get a corn beef. Throw the corn beef in a slow cooker for 4 hours. Add in 1 head of cabbage. Season up. Cook for 1 more hour and you're done. Potatos thrown in make a nice addition.
 
My mom makes this cabbage soup that is delicious. She puts tomatoes in the blender, gets the tomato juice (?) from there and mixes it with water. Then she shreds the cabbage and boils it in the tomato/water mix. Adds a tad bit of salt and everyone eats it away.
 
personally i dislike cabbage. it ruins the food when you cook it.it lets out a lotof gas. once i bought a pack of already minced cabbage, didnt use it for a week, the date was still good, i forgot it. after a week i saw it again in the frigde, guess what? it had bloated. it was like so full of gas inside and about to explode. out of curiosity i pricked it-that was the worst ever mistake i did! the foul smell that came out made me pass out! it stinks so much, hence my aversion to cabbage!
