Busting my tail!!

KJs Mama

Hello everyone! I'm a new mom!!! My handsome boy is 9 weeks old! I gained approx 37 lbs during my pregnancy, which I have just about lost!! However, before I got pregnant, I was on disability & I gained about 20 or so lbs! I am currently 153 lbs & I am 5 foot 2. My normal weight is around 130. I'd like to get down between 115 & 120. I've joined Golds Gym & have religiously went 4 to 5 times a week for the past month or so. I also cut back on my calories tremendiously and I eat healthy. (no candy, cookies, fried foods, etc...) I drink mostly water, with an occasional diet soda or juice. When I work out, I do cardio and also work on muscle tone. When I started, I weighed about 156. I have since then dropped down to 151, and now I'm back up at 153. Does anyone know why my weight is fluctuating like this? And why it's taking so long to fall off? I keep getting discouraged, which pushes me to work even harder. Every time I step on the scale, I get more and more disappointed & I'm worried I'll end up giving up. Help me out ladies!

what are your daily calories like?

are you keeping track of them? and accurately weighing and measuring everything you're eating?

If you're seeing this as a diet, you will give up - diets are like that -if you are looking at this as a lifestyle change - something permanent to your habits -there's really nothing to give up...

Weight does fluctuate - it's sort of a fact of life... but keeping track of what you're eating is a good step towards getting better control over it

I guess I am looking at it as a diet b/c I've never been over weight before. Even now I don't see myself as overweight, but a bit chunky. Not only is it unattractive, but might even be a little on the unhealthy side. Anyhew... I try to stay under 2000 calories a day. I eat a couple meals a day, with healthy snacks inbetween.

What do you mean by weighing and measuring everything I've eaten? I'm not sure I undertand. Do you mean eating more than one serving, but only counting one serving of calories?

a lot of people fall into the trap of underestimating what they are eating... and thinking they're having one serving when in reality it's quite a bit more and that does cause some problems...

fluctuating weight

To KJs, most authorities recommend only weighing yourself at most once a week. Daily, or frequent weigh-ins show water fluctuation, and can really be affected by what you ate the day before.
Also, you could purchase a scale that shows muscle mass. They are a bit more expensive, but I found a great one at Brookstone. Your weight increase could be due to a gain in muscle mass, which might sound gross, but actually is really awesome because the more muscle you gain, the faster your metabolism burns calories.
I think if you keep doing a combination of cardio and weight-work, you will start to look better and feel better. I want to hear how it goes!

You go girl! Way to stay motivated.

I've found that my weight sometimes fluctuates from day to day. I've been told that this is due to water weight and that you should really only weigh yourself once a week to get an accurate measurement.

Good luck.

I've lost thirty pounds now since I had my son with this program.
