bunnyluv's weight loss journal

I figured I'd start up a journal on here ...might help keep me motivated to keep a journal about my goals and such.

Most everyone in my family is overweight, and a lot of health problems run in my family -some that are related to being overweight and some that are not. It's always been really important to me to stay healthy and fit, to try to avoid having to deal with all those problems in the future, and who doesn't like looking good!?

However, when I started college (I'm in my 3rd year now) it was really hard for me to find time to work out. I'm a biology major, so that means at least two 4-5 hour labs a week, not to mention all my other classes, work, and trying to keep up with friends and family.

Also it has been soo hard for me to eat healthy when I have to eat every meal in the school caf. I'm a vegitarian, so that already elimites like 75% of the food they serve. Other then that it seems that most days my only real choices were salad or pizza and fries. I'm sure you could guess which one I chose most days!

I was doing ok last year though, tried to get to the gym at least a few times a week. I wasn't loseing any weight, but I wasn't gaining any either. Then came the summer. I started taking birth control pills that made me gain weight, and couldn't afford to join a gym. So I just pretty much didn't do any exercising at all other then walking around all day at work, and didn't eat very well either. Hence why I'm here, and hopeing to lose 35lbs.

Wow long story..lol, sorry.

Anyways now that I'm back in school I'm going to try to get to the gym at least 5 times a week, more if I can. I also want to try to get back into practicing martial arts, even though I can't afford to take classes anymore.

Today was only my second day of eating healthy and going to the gym, but so far so good ;)

so what's with this water weight thing I'm hearing about???

bunnyluv (cute name!)

Water weight is just water that your body retains because its not getting enough, it puts on some pounds. But once you start drinking lots of water everyday then your body lets go of the water its been holding on to, and thus you lose water weight. :)

Welcome to WLF. Good luck :D

hmmm...I don't know if I have much waterweight to lose seeing I've always drank tooons of water. We'll see I sapose.

So far I don't really have much of an eating plan, I'm just trying to stay away from junk food. I'm also trying to control my portions better and I'm going to start trying to count cals, see how I do on about 1,200 cals a day. The only problem is I don't know how I would find out how many calories are in certain foods. I mean foods that I buy are easy because I can just look on the box, but when I go to the caf I can't do that. I guess for fruit and veggies I could look it up online but what about the other stuff? Does anyone know a site I could look things up on or something?

My original plan was to try to get to the gym everyday. Now I don't know, I think I might need at least a little break, so I was thinking of going every weekday and taking the weekends off. I can do other stuff on the weekends, maybe a little weight training or practicing kempo or something, but not go to the gym. That seems like it would be better since some weekends when I'm not around I wouldn't be able to get to the gym anyways.

Go to or to find out what calories are in certain foods. Or you can always buy a calorie book.

Another useful site is:

- It has a great meal free planner, and it also tells you how many calories you need to consume a day.

Anyway, good luck with your diet exercise, it looks like you're off to a great start.

I think I'm off to a great start! I signed up for fitday and love it! It's so easy to keep track of cals now, I don't even have to write them down myself the computer just adds them all up for me!

I set my goal to try to lose all the weight by March 9th, my 21st birthday. That way I think it should be a little under 2 lbs a week from now till then. Seems pretty doable to me.

I was actually kind of surprised that it does sound possable. I could be looking great in only a little under 6 months from now!

I've been sticking to my diet of 1,200 cals a day and it surprised me that I haven't even felt hungry at all! Maybe since I'm eating lots more healty stuff that keeps me feeling full, instead of junk all the time.

For exercise I've been doing a little bit of yoga in the morning to help me wake up for the day, in the afternoon I go to the gym and do a 30min weight loss program on an eliptacal. Around 6 or 7 I practice kempo karate for about half an hour and do some situps. Before bed I usually do some streaches and unwind from the day. It really surprised my how much exercise I could get in without really having to push anything else aside. Just instead of going home after work and watching tv, I exercise. The only thing I want to add is to maybe get some resistance bands to work with toning my muscles, and eventually maybe work my way up to spending more time at the gym.

I'm so happy I finally started doing all this. I feel so much better, I have more energy, I sleep better. I even have better self esteme even thought I haven't lost any weight yet (as far as I know).

That's great! I'm the same way, I sometimes have to force myself to eat something just so I can get enough calories.

The exercise thing and everything else seems to be going really well for you!! Congrats. :)

Bleh I feel like such a slacker now :p

Week started off great, I was eating great, counting cals, going to the gym, the whole 9 yards. Tuesday though I didn't eat enough for dinner and got hungry later. Then someone gave me candy, and yup, I ate it all. I have this weird thing where if there's junk food around, I figure I better eat it quick to get rid of it so I can't eat it later on...I know I know, it makes no sense.

Then wednesday I went canoeing instead of going to the gym. Today I can't make it to the gym because I'm so soar from the canoe trip!

I guess its not to bad...but I need to get back on track. I'm going to have my first weight in this weekend so we'll see how that goes

Hey there bunnyluv,
I just stopped by to say hello and that you
can do this.Of course the 1st week is torture but just
look at what the outcome will be.What helps me somewhat
go and buy ya a cuite pair of jeans or pants a size or 2 smaller
and that will motivate ya because you look so forward to getting
to wear them!:D Have a gr8 day Tammy

Thank's niapage!

The first week is such a pain, but I know it'll just get easier. Next week I'm really going to work hard to get myself into a schdule of working out and everything, gotta get ready for the November challange!

That's a good idea about buying new clothes for when I lose alittle weight. I think I'm going to go through my closet and pull out all the jeans I use to love but don't fit into anymore. I'd be great to be able to fit into them again!

Yay!

So I've only been at it for about two weeks. Its probably just mostly water weight or whatnot but when I weighted in last night I weighed 5lbs less! :D Now if that's not motivation to keep all this up, I don't know what is!

Everyweek I set a few goals for myself for the week, and write them down on my whiteboard and check them off everyday I meet my goals. It helps me stay on track when the things i need to do are right there on the wall.

So my goals for this week (monday the 6th till sunday)

1,200 cals a day
cardio at the gym monday, tuesday, thursday, and friday
pilates/weight training monday, wendesday, friday
streaches and situps everyday

hmm that's all i can think of for now

Grr I'm so mad at myself now, I've been being such a slacker!

I've been soooooooo busy with school though. This week I have one of my huge undergrad research projects to present, and yesterday I was in classes literally from 6 in the morning till 9 at night - they're going to kill me!

Sooo I've had no time to get to the gym, by the time I get back from class and work I'm just ready for bed! I guess it isn't so bad because even though I haven't been able to really get to the gym or anything, I'm out doing feild work a lot (actually in a forest - I'm a wildlife bio major) so hiking around the woods all day I guess is better then nothing - but still it doesn't seem to be helping me loss weight either.

I was really looking forward to trying out pilates too, that way I wouldn't have to actually go out to the gym - but of course I ordered it online (some tapes and a resistance band) and what was sapose to take 3 days to get here is taking 3 weeks, still haven't gotten it.

Anyways I'm hopeing to get back on the band wagon. Next week will be tough with Thanksgiving and everything but I have a lot of missed time to make up for, so I'll try my best.

Finally got my pilates/resistance stuff yesterday. I tried it out today and it seemed easier then I thought it would be. I had trouble with some of the moves on the video, but I'm sure I'll get it. I didn't feel tired at all afterwords, I felt really energized and actually had motivation to go to the gym even though it's closed today.

This week coming up might be tough, with thanksgiving and all. I'm going to try my best though! My goals for the week are...

Cardio at the gym monday and tuesday,
Pilates everyday, unless it starts to take its tole and i need a break,
1,000 cals a day,
at least 8 glasses of water a day,
and trrry not to complety pig out while I'm at my parents house, and around all that yummy food over the Thanksgiving break!

Good luck with your weightloss!!....

I am going to try to control myself during thanksgiving too!!!!

Congrats on the 5#
