Building strength in arms w/o the gym?

I currently dont have access to a gym and dont have weights but i need to build a little muscle in my arms. Im not looking to bulk up just be able to get through push ups, I've always done it "girl-style" and trying to convert over to the real way is not happening. lol, it makes me laugh cause i really cant do one the right way without flopping on the ground  . So any advice would be great.

Time yourself for one minute doing real pushups- I' am sure you can do half of one real push up

when you can't do any more real one drop to your knees and do as many girls as you can and then drop to your pelvis and and do them. Fill up the whole minute and do this several times a day. remember that most commercial breaks even for a half hour show are three minutes giveing you three perfect oppertunities to do this for every half hour of tv you watch not to mention when you get home, before you go anywhere, before you eat.... whatever. you will be doing a hundred diamond pushups in no time if you keep it up.

Push ups are a very affective way to work pecs, biceps, and triceps in variations.

The ones with the diamond you make with your hands, I believe primarily works...(doing the pushups to figure out which part.. -_-'')

Okay, *huff* *puff* I've concluded they basically all work the pectoral major as a primary muscle. The others are minors. :p

I know this is an older thread, but gaining strength through bodyweight is easy to implement. What you could start doing is do two hand push ups off the wall or lower, like a couple steps, and work your way down to the floor that way. Second, do not go to failure when doing the push ups. You are trying to build strength, not strength-endurance. Keep the reps in the 3-5 range and keep the sets also in the 3-5 range, and practice them whenever you get a chance.
Just some thoughts,

If you have a access to dvd/vhs player and space for it...how about Power Yoga...(a take off of Ashtanga Yoga). You'll get to work your arms alot. Rodney Yee has some good dvds/vhs.... in stores, on ebay, amazon. There are other instructors and approaches yoga of course...its worth the research since yoga depends much on contact between arms/body with the earth or floor

Tabletops

I found that I was not able to do regular pushups until I had gained enough strenght in my torso to support myself. Doing tabletops to strengthen my back and abs really helped.

try this

I'm not sure how efective this is, but when I don't have access to a gym I try to work muscles against each other.

There are a few variations I try, like putting the palms of my hands together and pushing together as hard as I can for 20 - 30 secs.
I also do same by pulling them against each other.

Anybody know whether this is effective or not?????

You dont have weights??

Well unless you are in a prison cell I bet you can find some heavy objects you can press above your head or bicep curl. Use your imagination....

Have you ever tried to deadlift a sewing machine in its box? Try it....
