Building big calves?

I usually put like a squat bar over my shoulders and do about 20 reps in 3 sets of toe touchies, i wouldnt use much weight about 10 on each side. or if you dont have a bar, just doing sets of toe toucies are still good, and even better if you put half your foot on a stair so you can di down further, but dont go on stairs with a weighted bar, you could easily fall backwards... i did this and in about two weeks my calfs mustve gained about 2 more inches around them, but i stopped, or i at least dont do them as much because i dont see what large calfs' purpose are.
 
also, when doing standing, seated, donkey calf raises, pause for a count of 2 at the end of the rep. the calves (actually the achillies tendon) have a strong elasticity, so if you don't pause at the end of the rep, you're using that elasticity to push the weight back up. If you pause, your calves will take the full weight of the load and the tendons won't help you 'cheat'.
 
Also, after each set i do calf streches, that helps keep them loose.
