Buddha Belly...the more I ab the more...

I notice that doing ab excercises (floor based) the more I am getting a kind of little "Buddha belly". Its really frustrating. I do sweat but maybe not enough?. I do have maybe 3 inches or so of fat on my waist that is detectable upon being seated or bending. If I stand a little belly pops forth. It getting more difficult to pull it in. This has been going on for a while now...is it just swollen abs from regular ab work?. I am not heavy or over my weight for my height otherwise. Also doing elbow to knee twists develops the muscles at the side/waist which I think adds to the broad waist look...if you are into it. But I might cut down. I can see the muscles built more under ribs area more than around the navel/waist area  Maybe its metabolism slowing down; skin itself just seems to be looser and look more like a belly. :Has this ever happened to anyone here

you could do sit ups till the cows come home, but if you dont do enough cardio, and keep a strict diet, you'll more than likely never see your abs "pop".
As your muscles get bigger below your layer of fat, it can actually make your "belly" look bigger.
Your six pack is there, it just needs to be uncovered. Run, swim, bike, or whatever gets your heart rate up for an extended period of time. You need to get your BF% down.
Abs arent made in the gym, their made in the kitchen.

I agree. I've experienced the same thing you are, I used to do crunchies by the hundreds when I was a teen and no six pack. My stomach was rock hard... under a thin layer of fat. And yes my gut does stick out some after a good workout, the muscles are flexed and it becomes harder to suck it in.

This seems to be the general consensus so I will see what I can do, once the new year starts, about getting back to a more active routine or sport where I can burn more and see what happens!. Report TBA

Why wait for the new year? The fact that your willing to put it off, kinda makes it seem like your not serious about it. The new year is 3 weeks away, you can get ALOT done in three weeks. In three weeks you'll look back and say to yourself, ' If I would have started 3 weeks ago, I'd be three weeks ahead of where I am now.'

I just don't have the funds to do anything outside my sphere right now. In general do yoga and other workouts at home everyday and evening. I look forward to a more cardio/sweat active component asap in start of the new year all being well. Thanks for reply and encouragements. :)

Cardio

There right for years I have been doing situps, I eat healthy and weight lift a lot but have always had a gut, I just hated Cardio. Recently I said to hell with it and started some intensive cardio training, only about 30mins per workout but its a tough 30mins, none of this light walking stuff:). Though I dont have those 6 packs yet, in just 3 weeks I have noticed some major improvment. I am all for cardio in combination with ab exercises.

Good luck

haha i remeber long ago when I did 500-1000 situps a day!! later on I did 400-600 w/25lbs then to 50lbs a day and I still never had abs till later on when I studied for several years about health. o the good ol days
