Bubbalaroo's Battle of The Bulge

Well, I'm now three weeks into the new me and I like it. Gone forever are 13.8lbs (that .8 is very important!).

I had a physio appointment this morning for my back after some idiot drove into the back of me and whilst I was sitting waiting to go in, I got thinking... How on earth did I let myself get to the weight I was? Well, I know the answer to that one but more importantly, what am I going to do to make sure I don't get to that size again?

How I got to 196lbs (starting weight on 7th May 2008): -
I've never been a skinny girl, always a bit of a chubber but in 2003/2004, I got down to 144lbs with Weight Watchers and going to the gym. Not totally at goal but certainly the lightest I'd been the whole of my adult life. So what happened to make me put on 52lbs? Well, I met a guy, got comfortable, split up, comfort ate, worked from home, had a number of operations and generally just sat around on my fat bum! The next thing I knew I was 14 stone, the heaviest I have ever been in my life!

Crunch time came at the end of April. I had a raging illness and my doctor informed me that I needed more surgery (which would have been the 5th op in as many years). I dreaded the thought of going through it again and decided that I would sort my life out and see, if by getting healthy I could resolve the problem myself. So I made a plan to start healthy eating and set myself a start date. By the time I came to see my consultant at the hospital last week, my condition has gone into remission and for now I don't need the surgery, which obviously I'm thrilled about. Thats not to say I'll never need another one ever but for now I'm going to do everything in my power to see that it doesn't return.

I initially started my new life by doing Weight Watchers but on the 24th May after reading someone's diary on here, I set up an account with Fitday and am now calorie counting. I am having 1200 calories per day and to be honest am struggling to eat some of them but I really want to lose the weight in a healthy way so am making sure I do eat them all. My physio has given me some excercises to do to try to unlock part of my lower back and said that I can go back to the gym if I want to. For the moment, I'm just going to do some walking as I really don't want to make it worse. I'm seeing him again next Friday so I'm hoping there will be some improvement. All in all, over the past 3 weeks, I have felt better than I have in years. I'm not working from home quite so much so am actually getting out and about, something which I was having extreme anxiety attacks over before.

Well, thats about it for now. I look forward to getting to know you all on my journey to thindom!

I'll add a post to the newcomers section later but I really need to go and do some work now!

1200 calories seems awfully low - it's really not appropriate for most people... especially if you want this to be a lifestyle change and keep the weight off long term.

Spend some time witht he stickied threads in the nutrtion forum - and get a reasonable calorie goal for yourself -and do make sure you are weighing and measuring your portions...

Welcome to your diary and have fun while you're here..

Thanks for your advice, I'll certainly spend a bit of time later going through thr stickies and update my intake if needs be. I've spent all my spare time going through the Before & Afters - so motivating and some fantastic losses!

I used a website (can't remember which one that said my maintenance calories were 1700 so I just deducted 500 calories per day (3,500 for the week to drop a pound per week, however my losses so far have been a lot more, mostly water I suspect).

Anyway, thanks once again!
