Breaks Between Weights.....

Alright so I'm mainly working on my upper body right now, (chest, back, triceps, and abs....) was just wonderin what the "break" between weights SHOULD be...if for example I work all my upper body out on monday....tuesday everythings going to be sore....would the most efficient way to gain muscle be to repeat on wednesday?? Or is it that you should wait till the soreness goes away....please keep in mind that I'm looking for the quickest/best/ most efficient way of gaining muscle in a safe manner....thanks people!

The most efficient way of gaining muscle mass is by working the body as a whole. Meaning, working the upper and the lower the same. Focusing on the upper alone won't get you anywhere fast.

Weight training should generally be on non consecutive days. Regardless of soreness, that in fact Will go away with time. Given you are getting proper rest, water, food, and doing the motions in proper form the soreness should dissipate after the first week or two.

Every other day's cool. Unless you feel pain, in which case you should go see a doctor or a physio. Or just rest.

are you working lowerbody at all? Youre going to look really goofy if you get a huge upperbody and then have chicken legs. Working out everyother day is fine. Unless your soreness is unberable where you really cant work out just go every other day

i think you should rest at least 48hrs between working the same muscle groups. If youre serious about wanting to gain muscle fast then you should work the full body and not just isolated muscle groups. i know this is said alot but READ around the forum stickies.

Damn those were some quick responses, thanks....well I am running about 3 miles everyday so obviously I am workin the lower body out, but im more focused on upper....can you guys recommend a good excercise for calfs? Or calves..forgot how to spell it...I'm more into chest, back, tri and biceps right now...I guess ill stop paying attention to the soreness...it isn't painful or anything, actually it feels good haha...and just hit the weights every other day, thanks guys...

This does NOT work your lower body in the way you are thinking.

Im telling you, hypertrophy will come easier to the person working the upper and the lower body equally then to the person who just works one or the other.

and what way is that? my main objective is not to add bulk to my legs, they're already big....my m/o is to increase upper body strength and size, while still working out the lower body, working out as in keep them active...and last time i checked, running keeps your legs active....

"Keep them active"....are you kidding?...active means to not let something stop or remain in the same place....so I'm saying to maintain my legs moving....not let a day go by in which they don't do some sort of an activity....hey I've seen some of your threads silent, ima save us both some time...just mind your own business bro

Yea Ive seen some Silents threads too, and he knows alot more than you do. He asked a simple question, no need to get an attitude. Good luck with your chicken legs. Dont come asking for help then tell somebody to stay out of it

Yeah, I asked a question in the beginning...then marko answered it, simple question, simple answer....anything after that could be considered as butting in....especially with silents smart ass attitude, yea you're right he does know more than me...that doesn't mean he knows how to answer a question....when did I say " hey how do I add bulk to legs...the last thing I need is too add bulk where there already is enough of it....I'm working on upper body....jake, why are you trying to start dissin on a subject that has nothing to do with the main question I asked in the beginning...upper body ....whatever I already have my answer....keep replying, maybe somebody will respect your nagging...thanks everyone else....

You have an attitude problem dude.

You obviously do not understand how the body works in this situation.
If you want a big upper body you HAVE to work the lower body. Can you get a big upper body without working the lower? yes, however its a much slower process and in most cases does not work as well for most people.

I don't understand why you are getting so hissy. Its a simple comment/fact. Ill say it very simple so you don't interpret it wrong again.
If you want a big upper body then you should work the lower body. Don't want to get bulky legs? Well, stick with low reps such as in the 3-5range. This will allow for the hormonal benefits (that will lead to better gains in the UPPER body) while drastically lowering the pace of "bulking" of the legs.

"keep them active" Im asking what do you mean? Are you afraid their going to fall off if you don't run or what?
Is your goal better cardiovascular health and a stronger respiratory system/better stamina? CNS/muscle fiber contraction timing/impoving running stride (overall timing).

"keep them active" is vague, do you have poor blood circulation to the legs?

Now, which one of those were you meaning to say when you said "keeping them active"?

alright dude, whatever , ur smart, my bad for goin off on ya but i took it in a bad way....like i said, when i said keep em active, i basically meant, let em get some action in the gym, be it treadmill or whatever....i'll keep your advice in mind...peace out
