Bread Cravings!!! Help!

Now this was odd for me...

Yesterday was my day off in a sense. I still ate my regular diet and took my afternoon walk, but instead of powerwalking home and doing my regular 6 night a week routine, I went to the sauna and had a wonderful soak, steam and relaxed to the extreme. All good and healthy. However, on exiting the sauna I was struck for the first time in a long time, with the mad overwhelming desire to eat something, and specifically bread, buns, crackers, etc. I have no idea why though... I wasn't hungry, but damn I wanted that bread and I wanted it NOW!!! I succumbed a bit and had a couple little steamed buns on the way home, about 75 calories each which were well within my calorie range for the day, but man oh man, that craving was insane! I felt like a heroin addict looking for a fix!

Anyone have any suggestions of a nice wholesome snack or drink that might counter the bread or carb desire? All those Atkins and low carb people must go through hell if that have to deal with that all the time....

Hi sirant!

Why don't u try those fancy german breads? those huge ones. they are so tough that u can't bite into them, much less chew!!! :)

Seriously, i know what u mean. Have u ever had Coffee Bun? it's quite the craze here. It is the most evil & decadant thing ever with a YQ (Yum Quotient) way over the top! It is a bun filled with cheese & a coffee meringue stuff on top & is crunchy on the top, & melty cheesy in side...............HELP!!!

Coffee Bun??!!?? No, thank goodness I have not seen such things here in China. But wow, I feel like doing an hour of aerobics just reading about it. Ouch..... Luckily I dont feel too bad eating a little steamed bun with a tiny amount af cabbage and tofu filling. But, coffee meringue, melty cheese, crunchy top buns.... *insert Homer Simpson drooling video clip here*

I don't get cravings for bread exactly, but I do love it. I make sure I eat at least a couple of slices of really fresh, preferably just-out-of-the-oven bread every week. I don't need to put anything on it because it tastes so delicious just on its own, and bread on its own isn't all that fattening. I don't eat bread now if it's more than a few hours old, though. I tell myself it isn't worth it because it doesn't taste *that* good.

Bread was one of the reasons I couldn't stick with Atkins. I gotta have bread! I solved my problem by finding a local bakery that makes really delicious whole grain bread. I put a slice of that in the toaster, add a bit of hummus, and it makes a terrific, healthy snack.

Don't know what the availability of that is where you are, though.

I work next to a bread store and some days the craving is just so overwhelming I can't stand it. Thankfully they hand out free slices of bread everyday. While I love the sweet breads that they make I do my best to stick to the whole grains and for go the real butter and honey or jam they have sitting next to the bread board:( They also make great dinner rolls, scones, muffins, breadsticks, and biscotti. I try to only go in once or twice a week. I could go in everyday if I let myself.

Believe it or not....

Typically China is only sweet white buns and white bread. Always sweet. Perish the thought of whole grain, rye, raisin, whole wheat, etc.

However, I got sooooooooooooooooooooo lucky! Just down the street from my house and right across the park from where I take my daughter for dance lessons is the New Book City! Wow, what a place! Ooodles of Chinese books of course, but also an incredible English bookstore with a huge selection at LOWER than the printed price that are brand new and current. I bought a novel the other day that was 10.99 in Canada, but I paid $3.00!!! Anyhow, they have all manner of very cool western restaurants, electronics and robotics shops and not 1, not 2, but 3 French bakeries, one of which makes the best whole grain bread I have ever tasted for $1.50.... Super yum.

But, that place is an oasis in a desert of sweet, oily, yummy Chinese bread. I really could happily chow down all day long on the different varieties and flavors of sweet bread. When the urge hit I guess I will just have to suffer till I get home...

i think it's because when your calories are low, bread seems really fulfilling, even when it's not so good. I get cravings for toast at night, but i try to fit it into my calories, and take only one slice iwth very little. butter. It's probably not good. I'll have to get my mum to by brown bread.

Hi sirant. I’m surprised u don’t get ‘em in china. They are actually from Bangkok & go by the name Coffee Dome. pure magic!!. I got myself one today! Mmmmmmmmm!!!!

bread

live by a bakery? you might as well just kill me now!!! I think bread is filling and makes people feel better and full faster, plus how does one make a sandwich without it? plus the texture is seems to be part of the craving?
