Bpm?

Hi, i have recently bought an exercise bike that i have been using at home. IT has a pulse monitor and the max reading i have had is 110BPM. I have been told by a number of sources that this is low and i should have my pulse rate higher (in excess of 140BPM). I am very tired and sweaty after my workout so why is my pulse not beating faster?? What sort of pulse rate should i aim for?

Thanks
Paul

Id say your meter is wrong. Take your pulse by finding it in your wrist or neck, count how many beats you feel in 6 seconds, then multiply by 10. You could also buy a good heart rate monitor (Polar makes a real good one)

Bpm

I have high blood pressure so i regularly monitor it with my Omnron BP machine. This machine also reads the pulse and i have used it immediately after my bike workout with similar pulse read outs. With this in mind it leads me to believe the pulse monitor on my bike is correct.

What sort of BPM should i be looking at whilst exercising.

Ok, in that case, you can use this formula to get a theoretical maximum heart rate

220 - your age = theoretical maximum heart rate.

Multiply that number by 75 % to work at 75 percent of your maximum heart rate.
