Bodybuilding Legend Jack Lalanne turns 90

Bodybuilding legend Jack Lalanne celebrates his 90th - yes, 90th - birthday today, September 24th, 2004. At age 90, he still works out two hours each day, seven days/week. Not bad considering that most people don't even live to be that old.

That tells you something about bodybuilding from his era, and the differences it holds with the bodybuilding as we know it today. These days most of the bodybuilders on the professional circuit will be lucky if they hit 40. He is one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, bodybuilders of all time.

I just checked out his website...

My reaction:

Is what we're seeing for real? Is this really a 90 year old man in better shape than 90% of my friends? It boggles the mind, as I've seen people as young as their late 50's let themselves go completely elderly. I mean, I hear people in their late 20's complaining about how old they feel.

If he really is 90 (which I'm sure he is, I'm just naturally skeptical), is there more hope for relatively healthy elderly people who are willing to fight time?

Maybe Jack is just a genetic fluke, in terms of healthiness. By age 90, you'd think he'd be suffering any number of diseases that would impair his ability for physical fitness. But maybe he just takes really good care of himself. I dunno, I'm thinking aloud.

Crazy stuff.
