Body-for-Life

What do you guys think of the Body-for-Life weight training regimen?

I do plan on doing more cardio then what BFL suggests but I was wondering if the weight training regimen was good for starters. Thanks.

BFL Weight Program

I did Body for Life when I first started weight training and I had really good results. The big thing to remember though is that you really have to max out the weight on those last sets (the 6 rep set and then also the superset at the end). I think Bill Phillips calls it the "High Point."

How much of a begginer are you? If you are just getting back into fitness then I would recommend going though a month or so of conditioning. Do a simple weight routine and build up your strength and stamina.

If you've been working out for a month or more consistenly... then go for the BFL challenge. I did it and LOVED it. I would not do more cardio than recommended. Follow it step-by-step because it's all grounded with proper rest intervals.

Adding in more cardio could lead to over training and less results.

Thanks so much for the input! Since my husband and I started last week, we have not done any more cardio than what he recommends. We are already hooked on the eating plan! We love it, we feel such a difference eating good, clean meals. I feel really good about Body-for-Life. :)

Good Luck!

Good luck with it! :) Keep us posted with your results. I've never been overweight but after I did BFL I had the lowest BF% I've ever had in my life. I felt really good too. I didn't do anything to vary from the program except I didn't eat starchy carbs (I ate vegetables though) for my last meal.

Do you have the cookbook? That's a great book.

Will do! Here are my stats as of Sunday 2/19/06:

Age: 26
CW: 129
H: 5'2"
BF: 31% yikes

I also did my measurements last week, and I think I'll measure again in about 3 weeks. I'm trying to muster up enough courage to take a 'before' picture of myself sometime this week. :( I feel great, I got up this morning to do my cardio and I have to agree with Bill, it's the best time to do it.

I do have the cookbook Eating-for-Life. It's a life saver! :)

Awesome. BFL is good except for one thing... they really wanna get you hooked on their protein bars and suuplements. Just remember to eat clean and workout well. Don't get sucked into buying stuff you really don't need :)

Like I posted above... it's a great program and I loved it.

Thanks Lynn for the advice ;) I have a lot of protein powder sitting around though (I bought last year) so I'm going to try and use that up.

30 exercises and 6 sets of each on one day?

Dayum! That is HARDCORE! I didn't train that hard for my marathon or Mt. Rainier.

haha, rip. It's really not that hardcore but it is pretty tough. You do work each muscle group but not all in one day. The program has you weight training only 3 times a week. The first week you do your upper body for 2 days and your lower body 1 day. The next week you alternate by working your lower body for 2 days and your upper body for 1 day. Each week you alternate.

For each muscle group, you select one exercise for the first 4 sets, resting 1 minute in-between (you are also supposed to increase the weight after each set). For the 5th set you reduce the weight and perform another 12 reps, then you immedietely choose another exercise and do another 12 reps. Then you rest for 2 minutes before moving on to another muscle group.

lol, I know it sounds complicated but you get used to it. :)
