Hi, I am trying to re-vamp my exercise plan. My friend's son does a lot of weight training and recommended this book Body for Life, 12 weeks to mental and physical strength, by Bill Philips and Michael D'orso. I have ordered a copy from Amazon. Does anyone else know this book? What do you think of it.? From what I have seen I think that the diet may be a little extreme, but what are your opinions of the exercises? I would be doing the free weight exercises, and combining that with swimming and cycling 3-4 times a week.Happy 4th of July to you all in the USA:waving:

According to your ticker, you've lost 33 lbs- so you're doing it right. I'd say take it at your own pace, but keep it consistent, you're doing fine right now and I wouldn't recommend buying into any gimmicks.

Good luck!

Hi, thanks for the advice. The problem is that I've been at this since November, and planned to loose on average a pound a week. I have been stalled for several weeks now, so thought a re-vamp of diet and exercise might get me moving again. I am about 2 pounds behind schedule. (200 pounds by christmas08 and 140 pounds by christmas09) it doesn't sound a lot, but if I don't get the weight loss moving again I'll fall further and further behind.:ack2:

It's actually an excellent book. I've read that and also 'Body for Life for Women'. The diet is not so extreme, it's just that you aren't eating any junk whatsoever for 6 days during the week - and the 7th day is a free day. The food lists are also online if you want to check them out; it's basically picking out a protein from the list, a carbohydrate (which his lists are very specific), adding veggies to at least 2 of your meals...eating 6 times a day (every 2-3 hours), supplementing with protein shakes if you can't find the time to eat that often, lots of water, etc.

His exercise program is pretty straight forward in the book. Great diagrams and explanations of each weight lifting exercise, etc and explains in details about the intensity of the 20 min of cardio you do on alternate days.

I hope you find the book helpful! If you're anything like me, I couldn't wait for that free day each week!!! :hurray:

Hi Scoobees, thanks for replying, I see that you are doing really well with your weight loss, congrats. Have you been following his plan for long? Has it made a lot of difference to your shape? I have the book on order from Amazon, and will probably give it a go when it arrives, and I have a chance to study the regimen in more detail. The before and after pictures are impressive. I haven't come across the book for women. Is there much difference between the two books?:waving:
