Bluecat's Diary

I'm 5'4 and weight 182lb. My first goal is 140lb although I may carry on once I reach that. I used to eat far too many crisps, chocolate, ice cream and had far too large portions. I've decided that I'm not happy, and I want to feel healthy and confident again and be able to wear clothes that actually fit.

So far I have lessened portion sizes, swapped from white bread to wholemeal, if I crave crisps I eat rice cakes or spelt sticks, eat sorbet if I really want ice cream although haven't really needed to do that much, swapped to light cream cheese instead of butter and am generally eating more healthily. I do occasionally slip up however as once I start I find it hard to stop. I'm going to try not to snack between meals as I know I'll end up eating too much that way.

I also swim a mile three times a week whenever I can, as well as walking a fair amount.

My diary for today:

Breakfast: Spelt melba toast with light cream cheese and a glass of juice (200kcal)

Lunch: Cucumber and light cream cheese wholemeal bread sandwich with tomatoes and a pack of rice cakes. I also had a kitkat :( and a couple cracker things. (500kcal)

Dinner: Lean pork and pepper meatballs, garlic mash, mushrooms and vegetable gravy. (725kcal)

Total: 1425kcal

I've been doing this whole 'be healthy' thing for about a month or so, although before I posted here I wasn't doing it so seriously. It was weigh day today and I'm still 182lb. I lost 4lb at one point, and then put it right back on again. Hopefully now I'm actually taking it seriously I'll see some results.

I should probably say that I keep a record of calories through a cool phone app, but they're all rounded up (or occasionally down to even it out) slightly to the nearest 25/50. It also separates food into categories of great, ok and bad, with an ideal ratio of 50%, 35%, 15% respectively. It also records exercise and works out progress so it's pretty useful to keep track of everything.

Friday:

Breakfast: 2 slices of wholemeal toast with a small amount of nutella (300kcal)

Lunch: 3 slices of melba toast with light cream cheese (150kcal - I went swimming soon after so didn't want to eat too much)

Dinner: Stir fry with lemon sorbet for dessert (500kcal)

Evening snack: Wholemeal crisp breads with light cream cheese, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and a couple with a small amount of nutella (500kcal)

Total: 1450

Exercise: Swim 0.6m (1km), walk 1.6m (-around 555kcal)

Total - exercise: 895kcal

Saturday:

Breakfast: Porridge with a small amount of nutell (350kcal)

Morning snack: Rice cakes (100kcal)

Lunch: Leftover stir fry (200kcal)

Afternoon snack: A couple of crackers (50kcal)

Dinner: Pasta bake with lots of veggies (725kcal)

Evening snack: Melba toast (100kcal)

Total: 1525kcal

I'm feeling slightly annoyed at lack of results, but it's early days, so I guess something will happen soon.

Well, I've been eating healthily. Until yesterday. Yesterday I went for a picnic with my boyfriend which wasn't actually too bad (apart from a few crisps, tea cake, kit kat and dip...) but that included a three mile walk. Then in the evening we had a BBQ. It wasn't as bad as it could've been, I mean it's a healthy way of cooking meat, and I didn't eat the fat or as much as anyone else. There was also some wholemeal bread and a salad. But still, it wasn't exactly healthy. Then this morning I was quite bad too (350kcal for breakfast, but not good calories!). I'm back to the healthiness today, although no swimming probably until next week sometime. I didn't want to be unhealthy yesterday, but there weren't really a great deal of options!

Anyways you are doing so so well, keep up the positive attuide darling:) im totally rooting for ya:)xoxox

AHey...your doing so well. Your eating really well apart from minor slip ups but we all have them so don't beat yourself up about it.
Keep up the great work :)

Thanks for the support!

I've been better for the last couple of days, not exceeding 1500 calories, and eating healthily again. I also went on a three mile walk yesterday picking blackberries which was fun. Hopefully when I weigh in this Sunday I'll see results! I feel like my belly is a bit smaller, and one of my housemates agrees (there are six of us, which makes eating healthily hard sometimes, although the one that mentioned it is also trying to lose weight but not as seriously as me) so, hopefully!

I'll be back swimming again next week so that should also help and then uni also starts soon which is a 1.5mile round trip, including a really steep hill, so more walking will be done.

Yesterday was another fairly healthy day, although dinner was a bit bad even though we had a massive salad. I did however go for another three mile walk making the most of the last warm days of summer so that was nice. Today I'm cooking, so whatever I choose will be something healthy.

I weighed myself again even though my proper weigh in day is tomorrow. Still no loss. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I could be a little better with my food I guess, but I eat so much less and so much better than I used to. I'll be glad when I can get back swimming again next week, I'm hoping that will get things started. I'll see about doing the gym induction now instead of waiting a bit then I can go there on the days I'm not swimming.

Don't get down about not seeing a loss yet, maybe you underestimated how much you ate on your bad days? Or you could still be retaining water from all the extra salt in your crisps and bbq? It's all about consistency, stick with it and you'll see results.

BTW- I LOVE melba toasts with cream cheese... and smoked salmon... Om nom nom :drool5:

I think maybe you're right about retaining water. I'm also aware that I have let the diet slip a little, I'll make more of an effort to stick to it.

I looked in the mirror today and noticed again the stretch marks on my stomach. I hate them. I know they'll be there forever now but hopefully they'll fade once I lose the weight.

I can't wait to get back in the pool tomorrow. Well, hopefully. I may have to stay in for a repair man and the pool is only open at limited times tomorrow. It depends on my house mates, it may be left for me to do it as usual.

Mmmm melba toast!

I think I'm going to change my exercise as I don't really have time for a whole mile three times a week. So, my plan:

Monday: Swim at least 1/2 mile

Tuesday: Walk 2 miles OR cycle OR when I can go, gym

Wednesday: Swim at least 1/2 mile

Thursday: Walk 2 miles OR cycle OR when I can go, gym

Friday: Swim at least 1/2 mile

Saturday, Sunday: Whatever, depends on my plans

As I get fitter I'll change that to suit.

So the exercise thing hasn't worked yet. The day before yesterday I felt quite ill, and yesterday didn't want to go swimming just in case.

I've been in a bad mood for the past week but think I'm snapping out of it now. I relaxed my diet a bit because I realised I couldn't keep up with it while feeling like that.

I feel like losing weight is impossible. I just can't seem to do it. I feel fat and unfit and none of my clothes fit. I haven't lost anything still, and I've been doing this for over a month now.

I guess this is a bit of a ranting post, sorry about that.

I still haven't lost anything. Not a single pound.

I realise it's living with people that I find hard. My boyfriend loves crisps and chocolates and food in general and I find it hard when all the bad stuff is around not to eat it. None of my housemates eat that healthily, even the one that does still eats things I find hard to resist like ice cream.

It's really getting me down. I may not be following my plan perfectly, but I'm eating so much more healthily than I used to, and doing more exercise. I understand I'll be building some muscle, but surely I should have lost something by now.

I would make a proper meal plan, but I find that hard as I can't always eat the right things at the right times. It's frustrating me so much!

Hey i know its hard when you dont shift a pound or 2, but seriously dont give up on your mission to lose weight:) I would eat 1500 cals a day and exercise 3 times a week, then you will see changes:)

Please dont give up tho, look at the amazing diaries on here for advice and motivation!
