Hi All,

I am a new member to the forum. I am about to turn 30 this November, and realized it is time for a change in my life.

I have been overweight for as long as I can remember, but in the past 5 - 6 years it has gotten out of control. I am an emotional eater, food has always been a "reward" for me.

I am 5'4 and currently 240 pounds. This is my first attempt at losing the weight. I started my plan on Sept. 5th (and proud that I have managed to make it this far :)). My goal is to lose 100 pounds by Labour Day 2007, losing 25 pounds every 3 months.

My nutrition plan is to reduce my daily calorie intake to 1200 - 1500. I plan to have a "cheater" day once a week, allowing myself 2500 calories that day. I also plan to start drinking 8 glasses of water a day and cutting caffine out of my diet.

My exercise plan is to use the treadmill in the building gym 5 times a week. 3 days I will use the treadmill for 60 minutes, 2 days I will use it for 30 minutes. Weather permitting, I may take walks outside.

I don't really have a support network, so I am hoping to get that here. I do live with my boyfriend who is supportive of my goals, but not really in a place where he wants to join me on this journey. Maybe if he can see some results from me, that will change his mindset. :)

I think my goals are realistic, but don't really have experience to base that on, just research I have done. I am looking for feedback on whether this is realistic from you, any suggestions you may have and most definately supportive words.

I plan to use this thread to track my progress. I know this is a lifestyle change and I just have to take it one day at a time.

Wahoo! Sounds like you've got everything well planned out and under control!! Good luck!

Thanks for the comments guys!

I started aggressively this week, with only 800 - 1000 calories a day. After researching a bit more and listening to my body, I think that was just way to little. I hope that the 1200 - 1500 range is more reasonable.

I won't start listing my daily eats today cause I took today as my cheat day . However, I think on this cheat day I have eaten less than I would have on an average Saturday before, so that must be a good start.

Sigh... It is tough to break the cycle of heading to the kitchen, but I need to start being concious of what I am putting in my mouth.

Great start! I've noticed that on a limited calorie diet that the days that I kinda binge just a little are the days my metablism has that extra booste and I end up losing more the two days following a bit of a binge so you may find staggering your calorie intake to allow for a little treat can benefit you and keep you from leveling off so fast.

Well, since I last posted, I have lost 4.5 pounds!

I bought a scale on the Sept. 11th (figured figuring out how much I actually weight was the first step to see if I have lost anything :) ). On that date, I weighted in at 247 pounds (ouch).

I also found FitDay (thanks to other posters), which is very helpful in tracking/planning what you eat and your exercise.

Every day since, I have managed to stay between 1200 - 1300 calories for intake. I have settled into a regular exercise routine of 60 minutes (3 miles) walking on Tuesday, Fridays and Sundays and 30 minutes (1.5 miles) every Monday and Wednesday.

I did take a cheat day on last Saturday. I had McDonalds for lunch and went to a restaurant for dinner. When I got on the scale that night, it was showing 247 again! But since it has dropped, I don't think the damage was permanent.

Every day, the fact this is a lifestyle change, sinks in a little more.

I haven't posted since I started this, but am learning alot from everyone's experience.

Good luck and take care everyone!
