Day Zero: The preparation begins. *cue 80's guitar riff*
Why hello there. For all further purposes, I shall refer to myself as.. Bikke. Or Bikkebakke, or actually I'll probably just refer to myself in first person. Yeah, that sounds good.

Well to get things started, I am a 23 year old male, who currently weighs in at I'm guessing 255 pounds. I'm not positive yet, I'll be weighing in tomorrow when I get off work. I'm 6'1" and broadly built. I've been big since birth (I was an 11 pound 9.5 ounce bouncing baby blob.) I think I first hit 200 pounds in around 2nd or 3rd grade. In high school, I pushed 290-300 at one point in time. Shortly after graduating, I lost about 50 pounds and was down to 240lbs for the longest of time. At one point of time, I actually got down to 217lbs. But then after a breakup, I shot back up to 255 pounds ever since.

So, here I am. And hopefully here you still are after that second paragraph. Introductions are never easy, are they? But for the three people who might someday get this far, here within shall be my chronicles of weight loss. Enjoy, for tomorrow begins Day 1: The beginning. There I will discuss the reasons behind my weight loss and some of my plans and goals. So tune in tomorrow if you please.

welcome to the forum, and good luck starting your weight loss journey tomorrow :)

2nd viewer tuning in. You're in my neighborhood, I want to know how to get out of it!
Not 'cuz of you and all that, just to be a smaller me. :D

Day 1: The beginning
Howdy ya'll. Errm, yeah, hi. So, today begins day one of my battle for weight loss.

Today started off nicely, I had a bowl of oh so hard to chew Organic Raisin Bran. It's pretty good stuff really, its just the raisins are hard as rocks. I also had about half of an almost rotten organic apple before driving off to work. Hmm, someone is knocking at my door, I'll finish this up later.

To be continue-fied..

So yeah, I'm back. To continue-fy the story, I went to work. We ordered Chinese food.. which is my one weakness. Day 1 falls victim to my greatest enemy, free general tsao's chicken. But it was goooood.

But I did get my first weigh in.. which, was higher than what I expected. Instead of the predicted 255 pounds, I'm up to 261, a weight I haven't been since 2004. But, instead of this getting me down, it is a huge motivator for me to get off my lazy bum and do somethin about it. Day one may of failed, but day 2 will be a success. I did still manage to get in an hour of exercise today at least.

Day 3: The Plizaan
I'm ashamed of myself for that title. Please forgive me.

Today is the first day I have time to sit down and type out my plan, my goals and whatever else I feel like. So here it goes.

Ze Plan: We've all read 5.7x10^3 different weight loss plans, and they mostly are crazy and such. This one is no different. Basically, my plan is to everyday eat an organic breakfast. Either an organic cereal with skim milk or some organic eggs without the yolks plus some organic toast. For snacks, I will have plenty of organic and non-organic fruits available, such as the large papaya I purchased last night. For lunches, I will be drinking a glass of "Muscle Milk" from GNC. It's 300 calories, which is great, seeing how I always eat too little during "dieting" which just doesn't work. Dinners are basically up for grabs, but always something healthy.

The workout routine is 30mins - 2 hours a day. Thanks to my Zune 120gig (I recommend these for everyone) I can watch a movie while exercising, or tv shows, or just listen to music. For example, I watched Wall-E for my entire workout today. Good movie, I also recommend that to everyone. I will walk at least a mile a day on my treadmill and also bike one mile on my exercise bike thingy.

Ze Goal: There are five things I want to accomplish during this experience.

Get down to 200 pounds. I'm not sure if this is possible or not. I am very largely built and like to believe a lot of my weight comes from muscle. But I do plan on trying my hardest to accomplish this.
Eliminate fast food / cafeteria food from my diet. I work a stressful job, and it is so easy after a long time of stress to go straight to the cafeteria at my work place and gorge on food to ease the stress. This must stop. Also, there is a Wendy's in the place where I work, and I am a slave to the Baconator. That must stop too. If I can cut these things from my diet, it will lead to better health and also a better paycheck.
Feel comfortable in clothing. I've worn the same four shirts to work for the past 3 years. I own four pairs of the same exact pants that I wear daily. I'm almost like a cartoon character who never changes clothes in any episode. The problem is, I just don't feel comfortable in new clothing. I want to end that. I also want to get down to a size 34 in pants. I am currently a 40.
Get a girl. The only time in recent years I've had the gull to ask girls out was when I was down to 220 pounds. I want to be able to do that again with complete confidence.
Get stuck in an exercising groove. I want to not get out of the habit of working out daily.
As for today's checkpoint, I worked out for almost 2 hours. I walked a mile / biked a mile on my machines, also used my total gym knock off for about 30 minutes. I did 300 pathetic crunches, 50 push ups, some leg lifts and some other things. Breakfast for me was some papaya / jicama fruit, lunch was a glass of muscle milk.

Then came the weigh in. 262.3 pounds. I've went up over a pound. But no worries, I did horrible yesterday and will not repeat the same mistakes. Well, now I am going to head to Kroger. I need to buy some more organic bread. Hopefully I won't run out of gas before getting to a gas station. Wish me luck. :puke:

Wow you're a have a really talented way of writing :) Definitely makes for an interesting read. But uh oh....this makes your FOURTH person! Anyway welcome to the forum, I'm sure you'll like it here as much as I do. It really has helped me alot to have somewhere to come for support and bounce ideas. I'm looking forward to cheering you on to that 200 pound goal :) ~Lisa

Exercise, healthy-like food... and a pound gained. Often related; it could even just be water (you ARE staying hydrated when you exercise, right?) but the most important thing I personally like to remind people who are changing the way they eat, and tracking the changes it brings: Use a rolling average if you're counting pounds.
Basically, weigh yourself regularly, and average out the last 5 ( or 7, or 10) numbers in order to get a better idea of your "true" weight. It evens out the fluctuations that happen with the daily weighing. A pound gained doesn't count unless it is gained for the entire period; neither do losses (just enjoy the lower numbers :D ).

My preference is to go by measurements, but no matter how you track your changes, remember to be relatively consistent, and stay upbeat. If you are just starting to exercise, you might find your weight going up (for awhile) but your clothes fit looser. It's all part of the process, just give it some time and remember this:
1. We will forgive you for the word "Plizaan".
2. Remember to buy gas at 1/4 tank at the worst.
3. Good luck. ;)

Note: I feel you on the fast food thing. The magic words are "No cheese, no mayo, and can I have a side salad instead of the fries? No dressing, I just want something crunchy."

:biggrinjester: Keep it up, amigo.

LOL, I love your comment about being a cartoon character. I feel the same way sometimes. Due to my size I have to shop at the local big and tall store and they really don't have much of a selection. So as a result I own about 4 pairs of the same khaki pants and 5 or 6 shirts that I rotate but that's about it. I should just go all out and buy 5 of the same shirt too.

Now all we need is our own theme music and we're set... :biggrinjester:

Cuarto día: No me siento bien.
I have no clue what I just said.

The fourth day has begun, and let me tell ya, I already am feeling the benefits of exercising three days straight. I stay up later without feeling tired, yet wake up a lot earlier wide awake. I don't feel drowsy or slumpy at all this morning. My muscles do ache a bit, mainly in my abs and shoulders, but it's the good kind of ache.

I'd also like to thank the people who have posted or sent messages, and a special thanks to my fourth reader, douknowjello, and also Qjay for forgiving me of the word Plizaan. It's amazing what a little encouragement can do eh?

Getting back on track, I ended yesterday eating maybe one too many helpings of some organic wild brown rice with chicken. After walking 2 miles / biking two miles, 300 crunches, 50 push ups and around 30 minutes on the weight machine, I weighed in at 262.5 pounds. I keep going the wrong direction. But during the workouts, I drank about 3 liters (or litres for the British viewers) so I'm just gonna go on and tell myself the extra .2 pounds was from water weight.

So far today, my only meal has been a Muscle Milk shake after my workout, with a spoonful of creatine to help it down. I don't really want to "bulk up" anymore, but the difference in the way my muscles feel the next day after one of these shakes after a workout is unmistakeable. It really helps with pushing myself the next day.

Well, that is it for this morning. I will try to get back later tonight and make an update, I've been wanting to talk about the machines / supplements I am taking to try to aid me in my weight loss.

And as for Schwa, I've always thought of my theme music as being "Yakkity Sax," the Benny Hill theme.

Sounds like you're off to an awesome start. Hearing how good you're feeling makes me think it's time I get off my butt instead of just doing dieting alone. I've put it off a while but I'm tired of bein tired all the time, lol.

Day 10: Still Alive
Howdy doodles. Err. I mean heyas.

I've been absent for about 10 days now, I've had a bad cough for a week or so, so I haven't been able to do much in the way of exercise. But I am back now, and did about 30 minutes of exercise today, my muscles are too sore at the moment to get anything more out of them. Plus I think my food last night wasn't fully cooked, so my stomach is a churnin'. Excuses aside, I currently weighed in at 261 this morning. Which is good I reckon compared to where I was.

Welp, that's basically it for today. I'll hopefully have more to discuss tomorrow.

hello! If u really want for weight loss then try "kapalbhati pranayama". It is a part of yoga. It will helps u lot. Take care.

Day 16: It'll tickle your innards!
Welp, I decided I should prolly make a quick post before I head to work. It is day 16, and today I weighed in at 257.2, which is a nice lil chunk in my opinion. About the biggest news lately is that I've learned to enjoy salads for lunch, rather than cafeteria food at work. Other than that, it's basically the same ol' same ol'.

Also, a woman I work with is trying to persuade me to try a "Blessed Herbs" diet, which requires 8 days of fasting. I'm not sure if I can handle that, but I am starting to read into it.. I'm not sure if not eating solid food for 8 days is a very healthy way to lose weight, especially since she talked about how weak your body will feel. I'll do some research on that before I try anything drastic.

Yeah, fasting can be pretty rough on you. A couple of days can be a good way to "clear your head and innards", but I don't believe it to be an exceptionally good way to do much other than shrink your stomach and give you the runs when you DO start eating again.

It's good to see the poundage coming off from you. I'm currently plateaued, I believe, so the encouragement is good. I'm about 10-20 lbs higher than you right now, so I like seeing people in MY neighborhood succeeding..

Can I ask what size shirts you wear? I'm wearing 2x-3x shirts now, and the 3x are getting pretty big on me, but I have been working out a fair amount in recent weeks (that girls thing you mentioned :D ) and I am noticing a difference in my clothing due to my situps and other core-building exercises, but my weight seems stuck in a 10 lb range (270-280).
How are your clothes fitting you?

In response to Qjay, I normally wear extra larges or some largely made larges. All my weight in centered around my waist line, which unfortunetly is the worst place to have it and is a huge leading factor in heart disease (yay -.-). So, shirt wise, I haven't really noticed much of a change. It's the pants that are the difference for me. I was up to wearing a 42 size waist, I'm now fitting comfortably back into 40's. My goal is to get back to the 36's I was wearing a few summers ago.

As for the fasting diet, I decided that is not a healthy way to lose weight. Instead, I've decided to try out a diet of my own concoction, which involves cutting a lot of grains and meats from my diet, and eating more veggies and fruits.

I also started to take hydroxicut for a few days. A few years ago, my body handled it fine, but the other morning at work, I could really feel the heart palpitations, I was sweating and my body temp felt way out of control. So, I've put a big X on that for my plans, a big part of this diet is to control heart disease, not cause it.

Which leads to another decision, a lot of this time, I have focused a big part of my workout lifting heavy weights. I'm going to cut back a bit on that and put a bigger focus in on cardio workouts and stepping up the time, speed and incline on the treadmill / bike. It will help with weight loss and give me the muscle endurance needed for later weight lifting. Plus, having chest pain at 23 when my father, both sets of grandfathers, and grandmother have all been hospitalized within the past year with heart related problems, really scares and motivates me at the same time, even if it was pill related.

I'll have a weight in tomorrow, I gotta go to work :banghead:

And Qjay, keep on at it :p hitting the plateaue is a huge demotivator, at least for me. Just don't give up, once you break through, it'll be smooth sailing :D

Tuesday, March 3rd
Day uhh.. lost count..:

Here begins another day. I weighed in at 255.5 pounds today (woo). That's about all I have time to post today before I head to work :banghead:

I figure if I gotta be Pleateaued, it is good that I am at my lowest weight ever. KnowhutImean?

Let us know how you're doing, amigo; I'm looking forward to getting down to where I can run more easily. My knees are pretty jacked up, so it still hurts to do it now, this makes me more determined.

April 15th, 2009:

Why hello der. It's day.. uh.. I'll figure that out later. 36 maybe? Yeah, let's go with that. Anywho, the past few days I've been doing great on my dieting. I've really gotten into the habit of cutting out bad foods from my diet, turning down fast food left and right. I've also been eating small salads for lunch with no dressing / cheese / meat, and a piece of fruit for breakfast.

The amazing thing is, I've found myself not craving food suddenly. Normally, my appetite is out of control. My stomach tries to tell me I'm hungry even after I've ate a large meal. But here lately I've had zero cravings nor have I felt hungry when I know I shouldn't be. I've started taking a "Super B Complex" supplement, I am not sure if that is the cause or if it's just placebo, either way, I'm enjoying the feeling.

As a weigh in update, I am down to 250.5  and I'm fitting back into my good ol' 38" khakis. I'm also starting myself on a "whole body cleanse" diet that involves a little kit I bought from Kroger. I'm not doing the whole "starve yourself" gimmick though, but I am cutting the unecessary carbs, processed meats and dairy products from my diet. I guess we'll see where that takes me. :auto:

Oh yeah, and when I started, I weighed in at 261. Now it's 250.5, so, I broke the first 10 pound barrier :patriot: Only 30 more to go, hopefully the next 10 will be a lot faster now that I am staying strict with my diet and actually changing my habits rather than reluctantly giving up cravings.

10 lbs is a great start!
It's also good to see the habits changing, that will allow you to keep it off more easily. Cravings are the worst for me, I still get them and I've been dropping sizes for a few years now.

Just stay on top of it, and remember that even if you do slip, you still have to "get back on that bike" so to speak, and know that you will always find encouragement here.

Now if we can work on your calendar, you'll be in some darn good shape! It's not tax day yet!
