Hi everyone - am new to the forum thing. About seven years ago I was diagnosed with a chronic disease that totally changed everything - Adrenal Insufficiency or Addison's disease. If you don't know what these are - well, it means that I don't make the hormones that turn off insulin (opposite of diabetic - I NEED sugar) and gets all the salt out of my body. Before this I was an addict. I was at the gym five days a week - 30 minutes of cardio, 30 min of weights, another 20 of cardio then some yoga to cool down - pretty serious. Then I got sick, spent 22 months in various hospital beds and had to stop everything. I've been on steroids for my condition (not right now, but you never know), plus went back to school to become an RN, so basically 7 years of, well, not much.
Now I work 12-hour night shifts 3-4 nights a week and my knees are killing me. I am looking at purchasing some form of fitness equipment to get me going - walking kills my knees and ankles). When I was at the gym, one of my two favorite machines were the Elliptical and the rower. I did the bike to "cool down," the bike was just not, well, enough.
I don't have a bunch of money to spend, I have a child and so a gym membership for even a 24 hour gym is not feasible. So everyone chime in and tell me what you think - should I get an elliptical or a bike? And if I go with the bike, do I do the sissy recumbent (yes, I said sissy)?
Thanks in advance,
Layni
