Biggest Challenges/Concerns Regarding Weight Loss?

What are the biggest roadblocks to achieving your weight loss and fitness goals? What kinds of difficulties have you encountered on your journey?

Fortunately for me, motivation isn't the biggest obstacle anymore; however, time management can become a problem, especially while juggling a work schedule, leisure time, and a workout plan. I'm also a big fan of the occasional glass of wine. It can be hard when you're entertaining a lot or attending a lot of social functions that can potential put a dent in your nutritional regime. I think lifestyle choice poses one of the greatest challenges to achieving fitness excellence.

Feel free to share your own concerns and discuss, or just plain vent. We're in the same boat on this one!

Hi I'm new here. Well, for me in the past the biggest roadblock was time management too as I was very busy at work. But today I see to it that I will allocate some time in fitness and healthy dieting. There are fat loss for idiots review and other informational diet and fitness references that I have used and it worked for me. I also see to it that I prepare my own meals in order to be sure that its healthy and full of nutrition.

my biggest challenge is pain management. i dont mean to say that im a wimp who doesnt like it when im sore, but im a 22 year old combat veteran who is 40% disabled. there are so many things i want to do and used to love to do but cant now due to pain. i work out to prevent future injuries and to keep fit, but its not easy.

well this is off track but on the same line as road blocks. and one thing for me when i wieght train to gain bigger muscles. is that i got stretch marks from growing to quickly. now i'm to scared to go to the gym because i don't want them to get any worse lol. i try every possible way to avoid anything that could make them worse and i use products to help them deminish. but yea it's a bad road block lol. Tony D, I hear that loud and clear. The same can be said if you lose a lot of weight quickly and are looking to help better the appearance of your skin or increase its elasticity. Have you found your diet affecting this in any way for the better or worse?

I know a similar problem for women is ensuring that you don't "bulk" too much. I think at any point when you lose fat and gain muscle, whether with the aim of toning or actually gaining mass, the muscle definition you gain will have the appearance of "bulking." If the fear is looking like a lumpy sack of potatoes, you can definitely avoid this by upping your reps and decreasing the weight you're lifting.

Rachel, time management is a huge issue for me as well. Most often I'm so tired and spent from my 9-5 that it's hard to imagine working out with any intensity after that. Do you find it easier to get motivated before or after work?

Ellis, I'd recommend some lower intensity resistance exercises to get you going. Resistance bands or using your own weight are great options if you find the iron a bit trying. What kinds moves do you typically use to troubleshoot for pain?

Zandra, that's amazing that you're still on the ball despite being pregnant--congrats! I'd suppose working out actually helps combat possible cravings. Have you tried anything specific to work around your pregnancy? I hear low-impact exercises are advisable, especially water aerobics and such.

On my side, I'm trying to tie any social events into being active--movies and beer are always fun, but sight-seeing and touch-football are seeing a comeback too.

Thanks all,

Lee

My biggest roadblock is injury. Bad right shoulder, horrible lower back. Both manageable if I don't do anything stupid. :O

As far as time management....this one always kills me when I hear it. I work with a bunch of EXTREMELY out of shape people and they always gripe that they don't have time to work out. Then I listen to them chatting every day. "So did you watch dancing with the stars?" "What did you think of the game last night" For God's sake get out from in front of the TV and go exercise!!

I have an incredibly full schedule, so how do I fit in my exercise time? I wake up at 5:00 AM and start my day off right by hitting the weights. No one can say in 100% honesty that they don't have 30 or 45 minutes a day to work out.
