big muscles decreases blood flow? :S

A friend of mine told me that he had watched discovery and they had this show about training and such. where they said that training low reps and heavy weights would make your muscles so big that they would block the small blood veins in the muscles, making you get that acid thing faster and be exausted faster.
just wondering if that is true? cuz it sounded kind of weird to me :S

Don't believe everything you watch on TV. It takes YEARS to develop huge muscle and thats givin that your diet/training is spot on all the time.

well, it WAS discovery, not some dumb ass show either. there it was said that to avoid it you need 70% cardio work.

colladeral circulation would come into play and you would not get systemic acidosis.. show me some evidence that i am wrong and i might consider changing my mind, the body compensates in very amazing ways. gaining mass ike that takes time allowing the body to compensate. you are talking a crush type injury from what it somes like and that is simply not the case. what were the variables???? drugs medical illness and disorders. what controls were used in the study. i think this is completely ludicrus...

i dont know, i tought it was pretty stupid too, my buddy just told me when i said i was gonna train low reps. i figured id ask here just to check. seems its just bollocks then.

well from a medical stand point i can truely say i don't believe a word of it. there are a whole host of variables that would come into play. it just does not sound at all believable. your friend may be thinking of lactic acid build up.. not systemic acisosis..and that is quite different. in proper training its a non issue..

I won't really comment on what they said on discovery, since I find it hard to believe they would dish out such crap information. I rather think that your friend misunderstood what they were saying.
One of the adaptations to exercise is capillarization. This is an increase in blood vessels within the muscle, so as far as them being blocked? I don't get it. The acid response they are likely refering to is the lactic acid response. Larger muscles require more energy, and thus produce more lactic acid. High intensity cardio will improve your lactate threshold, which I think is what they are getting at.

In short, will bigger muscles tire you out faster? Yes, of course. It has nothing to do blocked blood vessels though.

Want smaller biceps

I do cardio 6 days a week and weight train 4 days. I have noticed that my biceps and triceps are getting too big. When I look at pictures of myself, I do not like them. What can I do different? Am I lifting too heavy of weights? Is it better to lift lighter weights and do more reps? Or do I continue to lift heavy weights for 12-15 reps?

I am 5'3, 110 lbs and don't want big arms....help!

Training with low reps (for strength) doesn't promote blood flow as well as higher rep hypertrophy training, but it doesn't promote huge muscles either.

Different rep and volume schemes have very different effects on how muscles change and grow and all muscle is not created equal.

So not sure if what they said it real accurate, but at least it's in the ballpark.

To the last poster: Lower your volume and lower your reps. Do like 3 sets of 3 or something and you won't get much muscle growth, but will improve on your strength.
