BF estimates seem inaccurate

How accurate are the online BF% estimators? I've been putting my info (height, weight, waist size) into them for an approximate BF% and the number seems low.

i.e. I'm supposedly at 12.3 percent, but I don't believe myself to be that lean... Here's a pic for reference.

BF% estimators are so rubish its crazy.
The only way to get an accurtate body fat % is to have a 7 or 9 point caliper test done every day, 1st thing in the morning and take a weekly average.

If your relaxed in the pic then it looks like youd be about 11%, but if your sucking it in and tensing up then your more like 13-14%.

lol - well dont worry too much about it. Just ignor the numbers and check your progress using the mirror. It really is the best way.

Sre you really gonna change your diet based on a couple of numbers?

true....online calculations are pretty much not accurate.

I like using body tape as well (when I actually care). If I look good naked....well...that's good enough

well considering that i've been slacking on my diet lately (last 4 weeks of eating have been sub-par), and these numbers are still dropping... i'm just getting confused.

Numbers or not, i try to maintain a healthy diet just because i feel better! and logging all these hours in hotels is doing a number on my diet and workout.

there's an electronic tape measure that calculates bodyfat by taking measurements. I'm pretty sure it's called the Body Tape.

here we go:

hmm... sounds interesting

I got on spurts where i'm stuck on one thing for the moment... sometimes its weight, sometimes is my abs, sometimes its my arms, etc... right now its body fat. It sounds like i have a purchase in the near future...

That's what the army does! if you'r eover weight requirement but still think you're fit, they take your body fat by taking specific measurements and entering it into a formula. watched a recruiter do it to a friend of mine.

i thought you meant the army went of spurts of getting stuck on one thing all the time... sometimes it's iraq, sometimes is osama, etc... lol

The military form of testing is using tape measurements to determine your Body Mass Index (BMI). That stuff is such bull****. I had a 36" waist in the military and a 15.5" neck and failed everytime while people that were 250lbs with a 40" waist and an 18" neck (or shall we say extra chin) passed it. I hated that stuff. I busted my ass to stay in good shape but because I had a small neck (still do) I failed it while fat asses that sat there and ate pork loins all day passed weigh ins, and then had to waddle to walk.

yeah, BMI numbers are crap.

to the OP, I think your bodyfat looks pretty low in that photo. I'd easily believe it was 12% You can see most of your abs quite clearly, including the obliques and 'wang lines' ;)

if you had more muscle mass, they would stand out more.

i was flexing my abs... not "sucking it in" :)

eitherway, regardless of my body fat... i want abs that are noticable with or without flexing... looks like i have some work to do, haha

i have one of those Malkore and they arent electric and dont calculate BF%. Its just basically a tape measure that forms a loop and when you push the button, pulls in the slack.

they frequently sell it as a set with a BF calipur. which is what may have caused the confusion.

so he was tensing his abs. I'd still believe 12% bodyfat.

I'm actually surprised to hear that... I was thinking was around 15-16.

I REALLY want to get my BF lower so my abs will show a bit more, but i feel like i've been cutting forever... I've dropped about 6 lbs in the last two-three weeks and i'm worried i'm losing muscle mass.

plus, I want to eat more :(
