Is there a best time of day to weigh yourself?

I weighed myself first thing this morning, but I was curious if anytime of day os better than another. Do you retain water at different times of the day?

Post Excercise weight

Hi! this is actually my first post but I had a quick question for anyone that could answer it and it seem to go vaguely with this topic...

I'm just starting to lose weight after an injury left me bed-ridden and hangry right before thanksgiving. I decided to take up cycling and am able to push myself a bit and go 20 miles in about an hour and a half, not a good time by any definition but I'm just starting out and it's also on a big heavy mountain bike. Anyways, I've noticed that I can weigh myself in the morning and be maybe 228, but then I ride and weigh just for fun when I get back and then weigh 226.5. Thats a big drop for a single day right? Today I noticed Ive been around 226 for a few days, but I took a short half hour ride and when i came back i weighed again and was 223.5. I weighed multiple times because i couldnt believe it, but it was still 223.5, dont get me wrong I think it's wonderful but....

Is it normal? Is it even possible? What is happening?

I'm assuming it's just lost fluids, is that right?

Thank you for your time :)

I think the best time to weigh yourself is maybe 4-6pm..because by then, you would have already eaten, drank water, excercised maybe, and have gone through your daily routine. Weighing yourselt in the morning sometimes gives me false impression, since you're weighing yourself at a time where you haven't eaten since the past 8-12hrs, and usually in the morning you're hungry for breakfast. So you weigh less in the morning as opposed to the afternoon. Idont know if its just me..but right when I wake up, and weigh myself, I weigh a pound or so less in the morning than in the afternoon.

I personally weigh myself in the morning ... and you will weigh a little less then. But, as long as you consistently weigh yourself at the same time of the day, it doesn't really matter.

I weigh myself in the morning just because I like the lower reading. I figure that as long as i weigh myself at the same time each day for my "official" weight, it doesn't really matter.

I too find that I am a pound or two heavier in the late afternoon and evening than in the morning.

I agree with the Morning Ritual. In fact, I don't weigh any other time - since I Know I will be heavier after I eat and drink fluids. I read somewhere that your Morning Weight, [first thing, of course after releasing all fluids] :) is your True weight. That's good enough for me.

That is good enough for me too! :)

It doesn't matter when you weigh, but you should weigh consistant with that time. In my opinion...

For me I always weigh heavy in the morning for some reason. I weigh when i get home from work and it has been consistant and now routine.

I weigh myself in the afternoon...I cheat myself by saying all the day's water and food is making me heavier than I would be in the morning blahblahblah excuses excuses.

Basically, weight is a fluctuating thing - it will rarely be "accurate" at one set, consistent point. Any time you weight yourself is part of the range of the fluctuations...

The key is to be consistant. First thing in the morning is fine, so is right before bed, whatever works as long as it's the same thing everyday.

Yes, just do it the same time everyday.

Robre, it looks like you and I are trying to lose the same amount of weight!

Sure does, that's pretty cool. How tall are you? Im 5' 8"

How long have you been working at it? Just curious :)

I am 6'0". I am basing my goal on the BMI tables. I'd be real happy with 180-185 if 175 proves too difficult. The tables say 183 is my maximum healthy weight. I can remember hitting 180 for the first time and thinking that was a little on the heavy side. My, how things change. I started to take losing weight seriously at the end of April. April 29th, in fact, so I have been working on this for about seven weeks so far. I started by first eliminating snacks between meals. That alone was enough to see some immediate results. I then went to two meals per day and added exercise. The weight has been coming off pretty quickly ever since. I don't think it will always be this fast but right now I am enjoying it. I know they say not to lose it this quickly but I have to say I feel better then I have felt in years so I have decided to go with it.

yea they say too quickly is bad. I kinda think our body can handle it though. The first comes off quick then i think the body kinda requlates itself

Like I said, I am feeling good so far. My knee pains are greatly reduced, I sleep better, I sweat less (and thus I smell better), and I am just feeling better about the world. That can't be too bad, can it?

I've been averaging more than three pounds a week so far. That will surely slow down. Even so, I am planning as though I will keep losing at this rate. It may be foolish but it does keep me alert to the possibilities.

Smelling better? lol that made me laugh. Well it's good to know that it is possible. It's good to see your doing so good so far, I can't wait to see what I will be like in a month or two. :)

I didn't really feel or look different until I had lost about 15 pounds. It took a little while so try to be patient. I had to be satisfied with decreasing scale numbers without any perceptable changes in my body. I was beginning to think something was wrong with the scale but in time I could see and feel the difference. Now I can see just about every part of my body getting thinner. It's great.
