Best Fat Burning Exercise?

Ok so ive been working my butt off for the past 2 months. Ive been doing circuit training 2-3 days a week, riding the stationary bike on those days for about 30 mins. I also play baseball 3-4 days a week and rock climb on my off days, 1-2 days a week. I burn the most calories climbing but because of time and location I can not climb as often as I would like to. I am looking to find the best cardio exercise for fat loss in a gym setting. Baseball ends soon and I want to really hit the gym hard. I have about 15 lbs to lose before the beach at the end of august, I know I can do it! So help me find the best fat burning exercise to help me.

My diet is not the concern, Ive been eating clean for a long while now and my caloric deficiency is about 200-300 calories a day, more on climbing days, around 500-700. So if you are going to tell me about my diet save your typing fingers. Im looking for exercises to help increase the deficiency, I don’t want to cut back the calories any more then I already have.

I eat about 2000 calories a day, sometimes a little more or less. According to all the calculators that is what I need to eat to stay the same weight. So with my cardio I figured im creating a good deficiency. What do you think?

Longer cardio (45min - 1hr) is really good for weight loss as the latter 30 minutes or so utilizes a higher ratio of body fat to carbohydrates as an energy source.

I mostly ride the bike after my circuit workout. I figure i burn close to 500 calories between the to if not more. The circuit runs for about 30-45 mins and the bike is 30 mins. i think if i was on that bike any longer i would shoot myself... not to mention that my ass would fall asleep as well...

Haha, yeah. Ever take a spinning class? After a good hour of that if I couldn't see my legs, I'd swear I was missing my ass.

It doesn't have to be cycling of course. Running is good (though higher impact), elliptical trainers are great, and just a longer session of circuit training would also work well. HIIT is another option, plyometrics being some of my favorite workouts.

Once you have a good workout though, effort is going to make the difference :) So if biking works for you, and you really want to be burning more fat, you gotta bite the bullet (and brace your butt) for a longer workout.

to reiderate... longer cardio

Also, for weights, squats. You want to hit the largest muscle group for the biggest metabolizing reaction.

Where do you climb? Are you near safe harbor? I always wanted to get up to PA to climb. So, far, I have only climbed in MD, VA, WVA, AZ, UT, and WA. I would like to get up to new paltz (the Gunks).

What rating are you climbing at? Do you do trad, top rope, or sport?

I have a little (personal) climbing page here:

Which has some trip reports, information, etc... It also shows my homemade climbing cave (woody) and how I did it.

Climb on,

HA rip ive seen your site well before you posted your link! ive been thinking about putting up a wall at my house but im just trying to get the capital for it! and i mostly boulder. im from Allentown which is an hour north of Philly. eastern PA. I just started and im climbing about a V3+ sometimes better sometimes a V0 will own me for a day or two... anyways... i love climbing and have found it to be one of the best workouts ive ever had! I played baseball in college and that was a lot of running but nothing like the full body workout of climbing... even football was easier on me then some of the routes we've been climbing... the bending, flexing, pulling, and stretching are tough on the body not to mention the great hand and forearm workout! Im just trying to cut up and when baseball ends for the summer ill have more time to climb, indoors when it gets cold BOOO!! but still a great workout climbing a hundred feet of wall continuously... but anyways...

i know running is good and i do that on days i cant get out and climb... i usually do intervals with that for about 30 mins as well... any other ideas?? im looking to find the exercise that will burn the most fat for my time... i want to get a good return on my investment (im an accountant this is the way we think) thanks in advance!!

V ratings... You must be bouldering... Unless they only use the Vermin's (Sherman) rating in PA. V3+ is pretty respectable! I climb up to 10a, but normally only 5.9.

It was a fortune (read: holds are VERY expensive) to build my home wall.

When we plan a trip to the Gunks, I will let you know and maybe you can tag along!

Everyone want a great ROI! Hard work is the only path my brotha!

Hopefully, our paths will cross!
