Best age to start weight training?

I was just wondering, because I've heard that lifting weights can stunt your growth. I've done it before on and off a few times. Also, someone told me that you never really gain any bulk until you're a fully grown adult. I turn 15 in 2 weeks, by the way.

You should be fine at your age unless if your developing late. You don't want to start lifting until you know your going through adolesence. If your voice hasn't broken yet, i wouldn't start in the weights room.

i just wonder. i have like starting lifting weights when i was 13.. well... maybe 1-3 times a week :D lol, but now im 14 and im now working every other day on upper body and the other every other day lower body except sat and sun. will nething effect my growth? im really confuse about adolesence for starter i dont know wat it means lol

My feelings on this is you shouldn't try and change your body too much untill it's stopped changing its-self. I would never endorse heavy weights training at least until 18, preferably 20. I'd stay as far away as possible from the doctor that recommended weights training at 10 years old.

My advice is stick with bodyweight exercises (carious type of push-ups, chins, dips etc) until you're 18.

well im still going to weightlift lol, but not too much

i mean 3x days a week

bench press about 50 lbs, low weights yadayda

and i dont think it will effect my growth well which i hope not

go mostley for cardio and muscle endurance, you know high reps low weights, and do lots of bodyweight stuff like pushups, swimming(not bodyweight but very good) handstand pushups, ect. ect.

I started seriously weight training when I was about 14 1/2, I'm almost 16 now. I think if your body has developed (I was 5'10" when I started) there are only positives that can result from weight training.

I think the best time to do weight training is 21 ysr old cause that the time when a person is already fully grown

high school athletes

I started lifting regular when i was 15 durning football along with most everone else on our team. I really think that depends on the person themself. Some kids are just not ready for it but many high school athletes are and can put on muscle without side effects.

I read a lot of advice that tells young men to not workout with weights, but no substantiation. Upon what research do you base these claims?

If a child learns safe lifting technique, they can start as early as 10. There are no bad exercises, just bad strength coaches.
