Bench press migraine

Hello

Im 16 years old.

Ive been working out for about year, I do pulling exercises on even days, and pushing exercises on odd days, sit-ups, and leg lifts. my work out takes me a little over an hour each day.

Yesterday I was finishing up a bench press set with my max weight, and I really strained to push off the last one. While I was straining i got a serious neck ache, and a wicked migraine.

I couldn't finish my workout, and now whenever I lift, I can do a few reps, but as soon as I strain a little, the migraine and neck ache comes back. it feels like pressure in my head.

I had something similar to this happen to me a few months ago, it did go away, I was in a situation where I couldnt work out for 3 weeks, when I started again, it was gone.

I was wondering if anyone knows what's going on, and how long it takes to heal. Ive got a goal to reach for the summer!

Edit: On a side note, I dont take any protein suppliments and I was looking to start seriously bulking up. What is a reasonable suppliment for each day?

Hey dude,
I don't know where your neck ache and migraine come from, but if you're doing strength training for an hour each day, you're most likely overtraining. Do you take breaks? You need a day off exercise per week, and you should also give each muscle group enough time to heal, which is at least 48 hours, before training them again.
Using no supplements is fine as long as you get what you need... but that's hard, especially right after workout. Your body needs protein as quickly as possible, so I recommend having a protein shake for post-workout.
Also I suggest you see a doctor for that other matter..

I have one day of rest in between each muscle group.

Pulling exercises on mon/wed/fri/ pushing on tues/thurs/sat

I did see a doctor about my neck, He said that can happen if you hold your breath as you strain. He said give it a weeks rest.

I usually breath properly, But I recently realized that when I strain hard, I have a natural tendancy to hold my breath. From now on Ill remember not too.

Any of you guys heard of stuff like that?

When i first started working out I used to get a shooting pain from my neck into the back of my head when i strained for the last couple of reps. Sounds like what you get. It lingered for a few weeks and I just concentrated on not straining my neck and I've been fine ever since. Rest will help. That was about a year ago.
