so i'm officially sick of being overweight and i started doing something about it. i'm in high school and i play basketball. i started taking muscle milk yesterday to help me slim down and build some muscle for my upcoming season. i was wondering if there was any way i could do some of the following:
-keep myself from eating bad
-make good food that doesn't take too much time or too many ingredients
-stay encouraged
-how to stay on top of everything
any other advice will be greatly appreciated

What would help alot is if you go shopping, then just get healthier foods such as fruit, veg, nuts and seeds etc. Don't buy any of the rubbish like crisps, cookies or chocolate as these will all tempt you if they are in the house. If you live with someone else who likes that sort of food, then move it all into 1 cupboard and make that cupboard forbidden.

Also, stop taking any supplements that are supposed to help you lose weight. They never work.

It's good that you exercise to you'll be building muscle, but maybe add a bit more strength training as it raises your metabolim. And maybe go walking for an hour a day.

If you want any more help just ask :D Good luck!!

hi and welcome!

I did move your posts to the "newcomers" section, as opposed to the nutrition section.

Um, you def. will want to reduce cals...can you give us an ideal day for you as far as your meals are concerned??

on a typical school day, i'll either have cereal or pop tarts, depending on how much time i have before my bus comes.
i do carry a water bottle with me at school which i usually drink before lunch starts.
lunch then starts at around 11:35 and that's after 4 period of classes
i usually get a chicken sandwhich and fries and a milk, considering that's about the healthiest thing they serve. after another 2 periods, i go home.
i get home around 2:50 and i either don't eat anything or i eat whatever my grandma made for lunch, but usually i don't eat much around this time. i'll drink a lot of stuff, usually water or some sort of juice.
and then depending what time practice is, i go to practice for about 2 and a half hours (for basketball) and i drink as much water as i can there.
after i get home, i eat dinner, whether it be something my mom made or just a turkey and cheese sandwhich. i'll drink a lot more water or juice and maybe have 1 or 2 snacks and then i'm off to bed.

on a day off when i'm not dieting, i'll start of with a usual breakfast of cereal or sometimes eggs. i'll be drinking a lot of water and sometimes a little juice. i eat the same i do on a schoolday except i have a lot more snacks in between meals and usually if i'm out of the house or just preocupied with something, i won't eat for hours until i remember what food is.
i stay clear of soda's as much as i can and the only ones i've had in the past 2 month are 4 or 5 diet 7 up's, but i don't like soda much anyways. whenever there's fruit in the house, i'll eat a few of those everyday and i'll drink a lot of water usually, but i do have too many little snacks.
and that's about it...
