beginner but not sure what to do?

hey everyone, okay so i have never done pilates in my life! ive heard of them but i just got inspired by reading this forum! but i had 1 question, is it better to buy a video and do them at home, or go to like a community center or something with an instructor? and im looking to like lose weight and tone down and all that,i am chubby so i know it might take me a while to see results, so if there are any other people out there like me with a belly and lovehandles please tell me how look it took for you to see results! and how many times a week you did it for! and 1 more question, would it be bad to do it every night? i am also eating healthy and exercising! thanks! sorry if this a bit confusing

Taking a class with a good instructor is your best and quickest route to progress. He/She would be able to help you with your form as well as give motivation, plus there's the social aspect of the class as well. Also consider strength training as a way to lose that weight since you'll be building muscle.

Yeah I agree with Stingo - you can always do it at home and get good results, but working with an instructor will bring motivation and better results, especially if you're starting out.

You can eventually build up to working on your own, once your ability level is higher, and you can build up to every night as well once you're conditioning is better.

But right now that would be overkill -

Hope this all helped - good luck! Keep us posted!

Working with a professional is the best to go! If you belong to a local gym then check out their classes, they will usually offer Pilates and you can join a group, always more fun doing this. If you do not belong to a gym, then join classes somewhere, its great for motivation and you will look forward to your Pilates sessions! Remember, Pilates is not a fat loss system per se, its more focused on building your core strength and its awesome at doing that. Just do not expect to see huge results on the fat loss front. My advice would be to mix your Pilates sessions with some cardio, but try to get a weight training program in there. Light weights with high reps are a excellent way to lose extra pounds.

Also do a search on interval training, excellent for losing weight.

beginner but not sure what to do

I started doing pilates years ago with Mari Winsor videos; it probably took me longer to learn than if I would have gone to classes, but I eventually got awesome results. Now I also run consistantly and do some weights, but I have to say for me at least, pilates makes all the differance in my core and just overall stress relief and a feeling of well being. Not sure that by itself pilates caused me to lose weight, but maybe when you start taking care of yourself and begin something like that, you start paying more attention to what you eat and it all works together. :

And remember- losing weight will come down to diet more than anything else. You are working out, what maybe on average an hour- two tops- daily? The other 22-23 hours outside of the gym is where it counts. Eating healthy isn't a sure-fire way to do it. You need to eat under your BMR.

oops!! I wonder if the OP acheived what she set out for.....I hope so...
