Got to start somewhere right?

I've been struggling with weight since middle school. I was a active kid who was outside all the time and skinny. Then between my 5th and 6th grade year my parents up and moved. I went from having lots of friends and a mom that was a house keeper, in a smaller town that was safe in my neighborhood. To having no friends, and having a mom that owned a business (meaning she worked 12 hours a day), and a larger town that going outside was not really recommended as much for kids. I sat at home and ate crap.

In high school I was never really made fun of for my weight but I was on the heavier side. I saw my weight continue to go up as I moved through those years. Freshman year I wore a size 13, sophomore year a 15, junior year a 18, and by senior year a 20.

In college I stayed about the same.

Then August of 2008 I decided I really needed to do something about this weight problem. I was taking a trip to Europe in the summer of 2009 and I wanted to be more comfortable. In August I was at 252 and started working my tail off. In Feb. 2009 I was down to 215. I felt great. When my trip came I was about the same as I had been in Feb. but still feeling really good about myself.

After coming back from the trip, however, I have started to put the weight back on. I am within 12lbs of my starting weight from August 2008 and I need to go back in the right direction. I know that I can do it because I was well on my way less than a year ago. I just need to get started again.

My goal weight is 160lbs. I want to get there within the next year.

I am looking for your support and help. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my struggles better. :waving:

It's commendable that your dedicating yourself to getting your weight where you want it to be. Good luck, and stay focused!

What eating and exercise options are you planning to employ? Having a plan and working hard to stick to it are keys to continuing success.

Take care, hope to hear from you again soon. :)

We're in the same place! I started 2 weeks ago at 245. Now I weigh 230-ish and am mostly a vegan. My initial goal is 155 which is within the normal weight for my height (5'6"). My final goal is a BMI of 20. I've been trying to lose weight for a few months now but finally something clicked in my head and I'm taking it seriously.

Good luck to you!

Unrecognizable,

Nice to meet you!

As far as my plan is I'm really trying to look at it more as a life style change. So I'm making healthier choices. Trying to eat between 1200 and 1500 calories a day.

In addition I'm working out 6 days a week. I am taking Fridays off from actually workouts (but if something active and fun comes up then I will do that). If I miss a workout during the week then I have to make it up on Friday. I hope to eventually add in another workout Monday - Thursday but right now starting with one a day seems to be a good start. I'm a teacher so by summer I should be able to do at least 2 a day with no problem.

I'm also making mini goals for myself and getting food or activity rewards based on these mini goals. That way I can say to myself if I loose 3 more lbs I get to have a Pepsi... otherwise I would drink one all the time and just say oh that was bad but I don't know when I can have another one.

What are you doing that has worked for you?

Cocoisfit,

It is nice to meet someone with a similar starting weight and goal as me. I applaud you for being a vegan. My 10 year old niece has been a vegetarian since she was 6 but as she is a young girl she needs the protein and other things in milk, etc. When she grows up I see her turning vegan but we wont let her right now! Funny thing is she used to love meat until she found out where it came from and since then she has been straight out strong on the whole thing. She has more will power in her little finger than I have all together. Anyways... I'm just rambling on... but it is nice to meet you! Good luck! Keep me up to date on how you are doing.
