Before it gets the best of me

Hello everyone

Just wanted to say hi. I lost a lot of weight over the summer (40) pounds and reached goal weight 150 but lately have found I am slipping and the weight is coming back again (weighed in at 160 this morning :( )!!!! I know that is not a huge amount of weight to lose but I would like to get it under control before I have to lose the same forty pounds again plus some more for good measure.

I lost the weight mainly following low carb but really missed my fruit so I would like to try something else. I found something I want to try which is counting calories but on some days you eat more and then alternate with less calories and one day a week you have quite a few calories. The first day 1200, then 1500, then 1300, then you have a huge calorie day which can be between 1900-2100 calories, then back to 1200, then 1600, then 1500. I think it is called zigzagging or calorie cycling or something like that. It is supposed to fool your body into thinking you are not on a diet so you continue to lose weight. Has anyone ever tried this before and if so what kind of results have you had?

I am just looking for a place to meet like minded people who are also struggling with losing and especially maintaining when they do lose. There are a ton of books written on how to lose the weight but how many tell you how to keep it off??

Cheers MG

Hi,
Welcome to the WLF

I count calories and try and keep a balance of carbs/fat/protein, and I've found that I have cycle days quite naturally and unplanned ;)

I think the biggest problem with going on a "diet" regardless of which plan you've been on in the past, or heard great results from your neighbor's best friend's sister-in-law's coworker, is that when you go "off" the plan your weight creeps back up because you haven't mastered eating the foods you love with portion control. Calorie counting really helps with that :D

Consider starting a diary and get to know some of us - this is a great place to come for support, we're all going through it!

Again, welcome to the WLF and good luck on your journey!
