Before & During - 30lbs down!

After years of being overweight I decided to make some small lifestyle changes (and stop being so damned depressed first and foremost). Since Jan 09 I've cut portions, made healthier food selections, and I walk/stretch/jog 5 times a week at least. I've been getting a lot of encouragement from my best friend and a TON of encouragement from my workout buddy (my labrador puppy). I don't weigh in very often and I can't push myself very hard (heart condition XP and no insurance, it's fun ) but I've been pretty steady over the last few months!

Numbers and Info said:
Age: 25
Height: 5'4
Start: 225-230lbs?
Current: 196lbs
lbs lost: approx 30lbs
Goal: Something comfortable and healthy. 140?ish?

Diet: smaller portions, less carbs and soda, more veggies, oatmeal and water every day, and shifting my eating times earlier in the day
Exercise: Shallow stair lunges and 2+ miles of walking at least 5x a week, hiking on the weekends
Exercise Buddy: Tyler Durden (T.D.) 1yr old choc. lab

I do most of the picture taking in my family, which means I hide behind the camera and very few fullbody shots of me exist. But these are the few that I could find.

Welcome to the forum Shasta!

I am new myself and know what its like to try and lose weight with a heart condition I struggled with heart problems after taking weight loss supplements. Slow and steady is the way to go. It appears to be working for you. Congradulations on the weight loss and keep up the good work. moderate changes is in my opinion always the best approach it is easier to do and maintain you can increase as your health increases. Keep it simple and enjoyable.

Best of luck!

Exactly! My heart condition was due to a defect and later worsened when I pushed myself during track in high school (haha can you believe I ran distance?) My grandmother tried to give me diet pills about that same time and fortunately my mother saw them before I took them and stopped me, or I might have had even worse issues! For a long time I ballooned and suffered from migraines and terrible blood pressure, but since Jan my avg bp went from 160/90 (resting!) to 130/80 (whew!) without the aid of my prescriptions, this seems to be a miracle! Eventually I will need a new valve and a graft, however XP

Thanks for the support!

Haven't posted in a while but I'm dropping in to say I'm pretty firmly stuck. I've been at 196ish for a couple months now for a few reasons.
1. my breakfast oatmeal is not sitting so well, it gives me a bit of stomach pain... so I have not had a solid healthy start to my day in a while!
2. money, I have been flat broke so I've been eating whenever/wherever, including splurging calories at potlucks at work because I won't get much for dinner, buying cheapo fast food, and not getting enough water (water sucks around here so I drink bottled)
3. I have terrible ankles and managed to turn one and sprain the other in the same day. I also came down pretty hard on my knees (one is scuffed and the other is tender) so I'm trying to get them back to working order

I am looking forward to getting a new job soon so I have $ and some better food choices. Plus I've cut out my late nights so my sleep cycle is a lot better, so I am thinking I may start morning walks (so I have daylight therefore less ankle injuries lol)

The progress you have/had made was great - you became a totally different person! I wish you the best of luck in finishing what you started.
