Before and after, New guy

Hi,

I posted an intro the other day in the Newcomer section. Thought I'd post a couple of photos and get to know everyone. I lost about 110 lbs over 9 months in 2000-01 and have managed to keep it off so far. My wife adopted the same lifestyle in solidarity with me and she lost about 55lbs. We ate a low-glycemic, calorie restricted diet and exercised moderately. Now we eat more calories but are very particular about food choices.

I'm interested in talking to anyone about weight loss issues, but are especially interested in talking to folks who are in the same boat as us. People that have lost a largish amount of weight and who are dealing with maintenance issues.

Happy to share stories and tips with anybody on this journey.

Good to meet you all,

John

Nice one John - more proof that weight loss through lifestyle change can be long term. I had only 48 pounds to lose, and its early days for me, but I am determined to make the lifestyle stick.

Great long haul story !! You give us all hope our early efforts can and will last a lifetime if we stay with it.

Nice job by you and your wife. ;)

Thanks you guys! That kind of encouragement never gets old. We are still proud. All along we couldn't help but think of people we know that we're probably betting on when we might put it all back on.

For us it comes down to daily choices. Keeping the exercise in our schedule when we're busy or tired. Keeping the junk out of the house. Deciding when we've had enough to eat. Treating all that delicious stuff being advertised as if it might be poison. Finding "safe" but satisfying treats to replace them. And for me the understanding that I never want to go back to where I was before. Not even a little. It's a matter of health and of pride. Its been too hard won.
I believe it's a little easier for us because we're a household of two and we're both on the same plan. Folks who are in families or other environments with people of varied habits certainly have it tougher. I think my wife and I constitute our own little support group. Nice to find a larger group of people with the same goal.

John huge loss congrats.... yea being in a larger family with a wife and three kids there are always temptations pulling me this way or that. Kids don't understand why suddenly they can't this or that when you use to enjoy it together. They are slowly coming around it's only like pulling teeth with a wet noodle lol.....

Great job man, big diffrence. Seeing before and after pictures like that is what helped me get motivated. its hard sometimes stayin consistant with your plans, junk food seems so tempting sometimes, and sometimes temptation wins :-(. Working hard on controling those cravings and hitting the gym on a regular basis.

Fantastic! Wow! This really gives me hope for the long term. Your pics are a reminder that it is indeed a lifestyle change... not just a diet. Thank you thank you for sharing your pictures!!

Thanks you guys!

Motivation is what it's all about. Whatever your reason. It has to be good enough to keep you on track everyday. Seeing the people that have done it before us and held their ground just shows us it can be done.

John
