Beef Patty on the George Foreman

yeah, i was kind of wondering the same thing my self...working my way thru school means having no money, so i frequently buy this crappy beef for 1.99 a pound, because its cheap, protein laden meat. i toss it in the forman grill, and supposedly it takes a lot of the fat away, but i dont know...i bet it still keeps a lot of it. if it is lean beef you are buying, you have no problem to begin with.

i also buy ground turkey quite a bit. it is much lower in fat, and just a little more expensive, (and in my opinion tastes better). giant eagle had a weekend special selling ground turkey for 1.99 a pound...you can bet i bought 4.5 pounds of that stuff...

According to bodybuilding.com you should buy extra lean ground beef or ground round (92-96%)
yes, if you're going to eat ground beef, make sure it is the leanest you can get.

80% lean sounds good, but if you turn it around, it's 20% fat - that's a lot!

ideally, you should buy your beef lean, but then again, it is extremely expensive. i just can't afford to pay 5 dollars a pound for lean beef. as i said, consider alternatives like turkey. you can buy some cheap (albeit not top quality) ground turkey, and it is much lower in fat. just bought some more yesterday for $2.49 a pound and it has 8g of fat per serving with 22g of protein. canned fish like tuna and salmon are also cheap sources of protein...the only problem being that they supposedly contain unhealthy amounts of mercury (which, presents obvious problems).

whats wrong with boiling up a chicken breast? :D i love chicken breasts. skinless of course. just buy breast halves with skin and take the bone and skin off yourself, and its really cheap. or chicken thighs. all good stuff i think. oh yeah watch out for the stuff injected with broth, its probably high in sodium

buying them with bones and skin cost so much less and it only takes a few minute to take out the bones and peel off the skin. gonna be doing that once i get my george foreman grill, and my job :p

You guys really like them george foreman grills? I had a little one a long time ago when they first came out and didnt like it maybe i was doing something wrong. How do you guys cook like chicken in it?

i had one for years, now i have a hamilton beach one.

IMO, doesnt taste as good as done out on an open grill, outside in the warm sun on a a beautiful day but it does fine. i just found i had to play around with how long i would leave food on it so it wouldnt come out dry. ;)

grilling chicken ( or any meat ) destroys some of the protein i heard, by boiling it, it doesnt lose any protein and i think it takes in some water, so it will probably fill you up more. correct me if im wrong. but one thing, ive always wondered about the white stuff that floats up to the top of the water when i boil chicken  i saw a show that said what it was, and im sure it said it was something....the word gluten comes to mind...iuno but i think it would have stuck in my head if he said protein floats to the top. if anybody knows what im talking about

grilling chicken wouldn't denature the protein any more than cooking it with boiling water. either way, you're adding heat.

I think you're getting confused over research that found that using too high a heat (like on a gas grill) causes an increase in free radicals/carcinogens in the meat. Basically, don't cook on high heat, and you'll be ok.

I have no idea what your other question is. the only time I hear about 'gluten' is when its in reference to wheat, and people who are allergic to gluten-containing products.
