Beef jerky?

I just started to eat it again as a snack, and I love it. The one I bought is low-fat. But it is the cheap wal-mart brand, and I will look for a better one.

cal 70 cal from fat 10
1g fat 0g sat fat
total carbs 2g
sugars 2g
protein 15g

but the one thing I don't like is the sodium 810mg.

Is this a good snack for after a workout, or is the sodium just too high?

Thanks

The sodium is the problem. For a source of protein, jerky is great. But its raw, and the extra sodium helps preserve it. Personally, with a choice between a serving of jerky (15 g protein, 850 mg sodium) or a serving of protein shake (20 g protein, 150 mg sodium) Ill take the protein powder.

Bars are not clean, they add a bunch of bad stuff to them. For powders I personally like EAS and Optimum nutrition. They taste good, are very affordable and effective.

i love jerky! and i eat as much as i can.. i know the sodium isn't so good for you, but it's my weakness.. i do watch my blood pressure tho, and try to eat a bannana after eating a bag of jerky

Yea jerky is good, if you can handle the sodium. I personally can't because OF the high sodium (history of hypertension in my family, I used to not give a crap hehe). Jeff, if you can handle the sodium, by all means eat it.

I've read studies about the sodium nitrate (preservative) used in jerky actually kills the body's anabolic state. In other words, if those studies are correct, eating jerky will reduce your muscle gains.

If you are really ambitious you can make your own beef jerky with lower sodium, there are plenty of recipes available online and it is pretty easy, but book your oven for a day to do it.

I love beef jerky, But over here in the UK there is only one place you can buy it and it cost £2 ($3.70 aprox) for a small packet, prob about 150-200grams

Does anyone know how to make it????

Ive just looked up a few recipes and it says i need London Boril.
Can anybody tell me what sort of cut that is, ive never heard of that before

London Broil is just a very thin cut of lean steak, they call it different sometimes, my neighborhood supermarket calls it Rouladon or something similar.

heres a decent recipe, just adjust the flavors of spices how you like.

and low sodium soy sauce cuts alot of the salt out of the finished product.

jerky is nice but doesnt really fill me up and its pretty expensive to try to eat all the time

Not if you make it yourself
