Become a LEAN MACHINE & have a ton of FUN at it!!

Hi Forum!

I would like some input on how you get or keep lean and in great shape while having a ton of fun at it.

I personally love to jump rope - all the great tricks while listening to some great dance music. I also like to train with someone for motivation - and compete against that person (I thrive off of competition - love it!). I often will perform at peak when I know someone is watching me and I have a tendency to lift a lot heavier and go the extra mile when competing against someone.

Also, running on the beach at sunrise as it's a beautiful time of the day for me, just as sunset it.

Trying new routines like HIIT and HST (see: ) which test my limits and keep me interested.

The thought of feeling fat and not energetic keeps it fun for me as well, I don't want that in my life and certainly I don't want the health problems that come w/ obesity - I like it healthy!!

I would further recommend outdoor activities to those who don't like the gym - perhaps riding a bicycle near the beach as fast as you can, roller blading, running while listening to your favorite music (which makes you feel super happy) or audio books. Hiking is one of my favorites!! I love hiking!

Mostly everything we do in life comes down to the neuro-associations we have. If we link more pleasure than pain to something (ex. to lifting weights in the gym) then we will do it. People get fat because they link too much pain to workouts or too much pleasure to eating food. I personally think that eating is a waste of time and energy (I've coded that in my brain) and that I feel SUPER awesome when I put good things into my body (which I do) - and that tends to be not so tasty, plain foods. I think about being bloated and feeling sick if I eat bad food (ex. pizza - especially too much of it). Once you eat healthy for a while, you get sick if you eat something like pizza, so then it's easy to code negativity to certain foods and past habits.

List reasons for yourself about why working out regularly and eating healthy is pleasurable and then make a list of why being fat and bloated is great. You should see that the list PRO working out and eating healthy is longer. Look over this list regularly. And stop making excuses for yourself. If you are really so busy, then look at how you can multi task to get a workout in each day or every few days at least. Look forward to your workout as time for JUST YOU - a down time, an energy increasing time. Think about how awesome you will feel!!!! And what that extra confidence, energy and great shape will do for you in life. It's easier than you think to be in awesome shape so just go for it! And don't give up. Learn, try new things and see what works for your body. In no time, you'll be a LEAN MACHINE and loving it!!!!!!!!!

So what do you guys think? What keeps you into working out? It's easier to not work out sometimes, but those of you that keep at it and get results, I'd like to know why.

Thanks in advance!

I get most of my motivation from looking at my contemporaries. Look around at the average American in their 50's. They are 50+ pounds overweight, have or are developing diabetes, high blood pressure, back, neck, hip, knee pain that will require replacement surgery soon, and generally look like death rapidly approaching, and can't afford all the drugs they need to treat all the conditions they have (not to mention all the side effects of long term drug therapies). There is no reason why you can't be healthy and active to age 80 and beyond if you eat right and exercise regularly. After you work for 30+ years and finally retire, how do you want to spend the last decades of your life? In constant pain and sickness or healthy, active and happy?
