Becks

Not sure if this has been covered yet...

Looks and Hollywood fodder status aside, does he still have what it takes to thrill? Once he gets to play I mean. Given the caliber of play in the MLS (no offense to anyone) I don't see him as having a problem with really standing out but will he be playing anytime soon?

Not that it matters much to the money guys, The Galaxy's profit has gone up by 700% since the move, which is great for them but what about the fans who are forking out the 700%??

i think hes made a mistake he could have cut it at the very top level for maybe 2 or three more years no offence to mls but its not the same quality as european football

I agree. MLS if def. not up to par to European or even South American football. Lucratively speaking it was a good move for him, with the pay and endorsements but still, what's the trade off?

We'll see how it goes once he starts playing, may attract more players possibly in the future. I would love for it (soccer) to be more prominent out here but if Pele coudn't do it in the 70s can Beckham and others do it now? ESPN is actually covering more games and doing more press on it but we'll see.

There's a lot of hype about it now. It actually irked me to see all the celebrities at the opener just because it's 'cool' right now with him having just arrived grrr.

I think it's a great move for him to make. Sure, playing in Europe is great but he is making huge amounts of money playing for Galaxy and doing nowhere near as much work as when he was playing in Europe...Fewer games, lighter schedule, great money...Let's also not forget the fact that he is 32 now and he obviously wants to wind down his carear. The other aspect that attracted his move to Galaxy is hollywood lifestyle he now lives. If you're a football fan in the US than you should be extremely happy with this move, as he's more than likely to attract other big names that are winding down their carears. You've already got Angel playing in the league and i believe Abel Xavier is over there too.

I really don't think he'll have much of an impact on the pitch, he still has the ability but he's better than the players around him.
I remember when my team Millwall bought a player called Sergi Yuran about 10 years ago. Millwall were in the second tier of the English League and Yuran was an international player with Champion League experience. That should mean he'd do well, right? Well, no, he was awful. It wasn't his fault, he was too good for the players around him, he would anticipate runs and pass into space but our players were used to passing to feet and knee high tackles. A good player has to play alongside others of the same quality to be effective, all that's gonna happen to Beckham is that he'll have to lower his standards to fit the players around him

As for him winding down his career, if that's his plan then he should retire now. However, I think he only signed because he thought his career was over at Real and England had dropped him. He had his bitch of a wife nagging him and he caved in. If he has any sense he'll try and break his contract and move to a proper league

I agree, I think he'll end up getting frustrated but like Streamline said maybe he will attract others who are wanting to slow down as well, and then maybe it will raise the bar slightly and make it more interesting for the league...I guess we'll see what happens when he actually gets to play...

(you would Evo LOL)

When you think about it, he's actually helping the league more than he's helping his team.
