Beauty from ashes

Hello Deteecher and welcome to the forum!

Wow, you have lost 100 pounds before...twice! I can't imagine! I'm on a journey myself and to lose it once is hard enough...now to go after it a 3rd time..wow! I see you've tackled the questions...I did the same and it was eye opening for me.

For your journal...it is for you and you write whatever you need to...good, bad, ugly...I think you'll find that there are many good supportive people here who can help you along the way...I encourage you to post every day...it helps keep me honest when I know people are counting on me.

One thing you might consider is listening to fat2fitradio.com podcasts when you go for a walk (don't necessarily wait on that treadmill!!). Go to the early podcasts first and listen..it's all about a couple of guys who give good (not for profit or ads) advice at the sametime they are trying to lose and maintain weight. Their experience and deal is "eat like the thin person you want to become and eventually you will become that thin person"..and I've found it to be very helpful, not to feel like I'm always on a "diet". Mentally that helps me.

When I started out on this journey 1 June 2011, I had 5 simple rules that I followed...most of which I still follow today: (not easy, but simple..I need simple!)

1) Exercise every day (worked my way up from 30 minutes moderate walking on treadmill to now 60 minutes on the elliptical)

2) No eating after 6:00pm (except on special occasions, and yes, sometimes that meant I didn't have dinner as I got home from work late...but next morning, ate a bigger breakfast)

3) Low carbs (stay away from breads, pastas etc)

4) No sodas (not even diet sodas)

5) No processed sweets or sugars or "rewards" (occasional fruit is OK)

The most important thing, as I'm sure you already know is the reason to stick to it...and whatever...don't you quit, don't you quit, don't you quit!!

Looking forward to seeing your updates and helping if I can along the way!

heeeeey, loved reading ur answers to the questions. SO what u had a bad day today, tomorrow is still another day:) best of luck hun xxx

Hey Deteecher,

I took the diet sodas out because I'm convinced that the sweetner in them makes my body think I'm getting sweets and those are definitly on my do not have list...because sweets are "off to the races" foods. I was really addicted to diet coke..4-5 a day habit. I have no facts for the sweets trigger but all those chemicals can't be good for me, so I took them off. Went through the caffeine headache withdrawal first, but after 3 days, it was do-able.

When you want to get off your pity pot, we'll be here...better not sit too long though...tends to give ring around the ass-hole!
