barbell vs. dumbell -or- left arm vs. right arm

Hi, Group.

When I do barbell preacher curls my left arm always lags behind and my right arm, and my right arm finishes the reps a little quicker i.e. reaches full contraction first. I realize that I can target my left arm better by using dumbells but I want to even my arms out; currently my right arm is stronger. I don't want my right arm to get too far ahead of my left arm. Should I continue with the barbell curls and hope my left arm catches up or is there a better solution? I do plan on mixing up my biceps routine anyway but for now it's just barbell preacher curls.

I guess another way of asking the same question is what is best method to keep my arms symetrical (strength and size).

Thanks, Max

Start incorporating unilateral work. In short, independant limb work, like DBs for upperbody, lunges and bulgarians for lower.

Thanks. If I started doing dumbell curls, using the same weight for each arm, will that allow my left arm to catch up with my right arm more efficiently than using the barbell? I guess it doesn't really matter since I am going to be mixing up my routine anyway, but I'm curious. :)

Cheers, Max

Yes, and you should start each set with the left arm, and forcing an extra rep at the end of your last set just for the left arm isn't a bad idea either.

don't increase weight on the right arm until the left arm catches up.
