Ballpark figure on how many months to lose belly

Hello everyone,

I am new here. I've been anxiously looking for a ballpark figure on how long it takes to get rid of a beer belly. I know "it depends".

I'm about 5'11'' and weigh around 175lbs. I've lost weight before and got as low as 159 so I know it's doable. My concern is the gut. When I was younger, I was a stick. I'm not fat now, although without the gut I would be thinner.

I've lost something with my gut, I have an elliptical machine I bought. I had a pair of dress shorts that were 34's and they fit very tightly, now they are much loser.

What is the average time you think to lose most of the belly while doing elliptical daily? 5 months?

Thanks,

Nick

yes - this is quite right. How to achieve the required look is a topic much in debate.

I'm not allowed to link to any external sites yet as my post count is too low, but if you visit the address in my signature, you will find a huge amount of information on just this subject

Good luck

Let's assume you're trying to get down to 160lb, that's 15lb. You can probably lose 1lb/week fairly consistently, provided nutrition and exercise is in check, so 15 weeks would be a theoretically correct answer. Do some resistance training to make sure you maintain (and possibly grow) muscle mass. This may decrease total weight lost, but your goal is to remove the beer belly, not to be at a specific weight, right? If you lose 15lb of fat and don't lose any muscle, then you'll be at 160lb. If you lose 15lb of fat and gain 5lb of muscle, then you'll be at 165lb. If that's the end result then it's a success.
