Back In it..

Hello all,

Well, I finally got fed up with it and am getting back in shape. Searching the web I came across this forum and felt this would be a good place to inspire me more.

For starters, I was one on the right path in fitness, but, then went into a hole which I am still climbing out.

Here is a pic of me at 23-24 years old, and at that time, I 'think' I had/have a potentially solid thick frame to work with but I am only 5 '10. I never got cut, but did get pretty dang strong.

Well.. I am 36 now and been married for 11 years and about 1.5 months ago started back working out with a friend. For most of those 11 years, I stayed around 240 lbls and got up to 280lbls. :( Right now, I have dropped down to 260lbls, and still shreading the pounds as I watch my cal intake, work out hard 5 times a week, and walk 2.5 miles/day.

My question is (besides obvious support), is from experience can anyone tell me what concerns I should have with being 36 now and setting my goals to have that 23yearl old look I once had? Is it a pipe dream? Or still doable.

Encouragement needed.

Thanks,
Jungle

Well I can't see why at age 36, you cannot get yourself in at least as good, if not better, shape than you were at 23/24. Unless you have some physical limitations hindering you. Let's just say I am older than you and I feel I am in at least as good as shape as I was "back in the day". Don't underestimate the importance of your diet. Just continue to educate yourself about training and nutrition. Make yourself a "game plan", stick with it, and you can easily achieve your goals. Good Luck

Thanks JPC / Anyone want to critique my workout.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to know I am still in the game.

Also was wondering if anyone wanted to critique my workout. Must have excel on your machine, but here it is.

Besides this, I am walking/jogging 2.5 miles 5-6 times per week. I also realize that I have one leg day. My favorites are shoulders and chest.

Thanks,
Jungle

You could work on your routine some, on Monday, you should do the presses first, do the incline before the flys. Also take out the kickbacks and put in some dips or close grip bench presses.

For the back/shoulder/bicep day, you need some form of a shoulder press in there and you should be doing it first. For your back you need some lat work, pullups and chinups, if not, pulldowns work. You also need some rows, barbell bent over, cable seated rows, dumbbell rows, etc

Do you do any cardio??

you could check this out for a little more written help too

Yeah, was wondering about that actually. I actually had it Bench, then incline, then flys, but, changed it up and put flys there so I could gain some stamina back in my tries before doing the incline. (was afraid my triceps would give out and I wouldnt get a good incline workout)

Also take out the kickbacks and put in some dips or close grip bench presses.

I don't have anything to to do dips at the moment, not to mention I wouldn't be able to get myself up anyways.. lol, but the close grip bench press is a good idea. I am curious to why you would remove them, it seems to me, they tend to work the best out of all my choices.

What about changing out Lying Rear Deltoid Raises, with a barbell military press and putting it at the top?

The back has been kinda difficult with the equipment I have, dumbells, barbells, incline/decline bench. But, the barbell rows I had at first was the barbell bent over rows I think you were suggesting.

Yes, as I stated, I am doing about 2.5 miles/day (30-40) min. 5 to 6 times a week. Alternating walking and running. Have to remember, I am dropping fast, but am still at 256 right now. WARNING: AVOID COMPUTER GAMES, CAUSES FAST DEATH TO ALL HUMANS!

Thanks for the input, it amazes me how your body can go south if you don't keep care of it. When I was really into working out several years ago, I lived and breathed it much like several I have read here are doing now.

And, even though I ate healthy then, I ate ALOT.. I mean AAALLLOOOT. Well, after getting married and getting out of the dating scene, I dropped working out (but kept that appitite evidently), started playing alot of online PC games, then I work as a programmer so that didn't help much.. I did nothing but sit.. and it shows.
