I'm 47 (WM), 6'1", approx. 215 lbs. and decided it was time to get off my butt. Not interested in running because of all the bad things I hear about it (high impact - knees, ankles), so I have started a walking regimen. I've been doing it for a few weeks. My question is that as I am walking the outer part of my lower right leg (the fleshy part to the right of my shin bone, so I don't think it's shin splints, have had them before) burns like fire the entire time that I am walking (it comes and goes, but mostly comes!). I thought that after time my muscles would start to get used to the activity. I do cool down stretches after the walk. It is uncomfortable enough to discourage further walking. In high school ran cross country and track all 4 years (never hurt this bad this long!? After awhile your body would get used to it). Any info or advice would be great, I really don't want to stop. Also, did not consult with Dr. prior to regimen.
Thanks!
