hey all. I used to be a member of this forum 2 years and was doing really well. I had lost about 40 pounds. Then I hit a brick wall for almost 3 months so I ended up giving up. Over the past 2 years ive slowly gained it back so now Im back to start all over again. This time with true intentions of changing my diet for good. Hopefully I will see some familiar faces with success stories and tons of lost weight. Even if I failed I love to see you guys succeed.

32,

Your story sounds a lot like mine. I worked so hard to down to where I was and I swore, I'd NEVER go back again. But slowly I gained it all back plus some. I spent a few years putting up with it and almost accepted being that way and there was nothing I could do about it. But I here now and am trying to stay motivated. I would like to get back to where I worked so hard to get to (175) but I'm not giving myself any deadlines. I feel that if I'm going stay healthy for the rest of my life, I'll reach that weight when I get there. It still beats the hell out of slowly gaining weight and wishing I could do something about. Anyway, welcome to the forum and good luck on your journey.

My first goal is to get under 200 again. I have changed my diet to much smaller quantities and skipping the pizza and other bad foods. mostly eating chicken eggs and vegetables now. Im a member of a gym but I lost my tag. its just a matter of getting another one from them. So i will be taking care of that next.

Good stuff, getting into the gym for the first time takes a lot of effort but luckily it can become habit forming. Had one membership that was three months in before I used it the first time and I remember figuring that my first workout cost me over $100 in membership fees. It became a game after that to see how low I could get the cost per visit.

I have a feeling the combination of diet and exercise will get you rushing towards 200 in no time. Looking forward to your updates.

Yea getting my foot out the door to the gym is hard. I need to look at it like you have and the costs. thats a good way to look at it. You look well on your way to your goal as well. I will keep an eye on your progress.

Thanks for stopping by my thread again size 32. In terms of motivation a couple of the things that have worked for me was to:

Break down the goals into a series of goals

Pick a few rewards for along the way (still need to figure out this one myself but a few others on here have some great ideas)

Set activity goals for myself as well as weight goals

Try to break activity goals for the week into goals for the day

For me, if I tackle either diet or exercise alone I never manage to stick with it long as I don't see the results I'm looking for.

Getting to the gym is a good start but if you're like me and show up there without any real plan for what you're going to do when you get there it can be tough. Even without going to the gym there's a lot of ways to get a little more active at home, whether it's going for a walk around the block or walk to the grocery store or fountain at work, doing pushups/situps during commercials or every half hour of any other activity. All activity adds up and starts a snowball of good things rolling.

Good luck

Hey 32!

I think we've all worked hard, slipped up, and then realized "dang, I gotta get back on it!" ...but you know what? Getting back on the wagon makes you a strong, motivated and determined person! I find admitting to myself that I need to change one of the hardest things! But we did it!! (YAY!) And now we're going to get through it and reach our goals :)

I would love to hear about your diet and exercise goals! It would be great to compare and see how we are doing!

If you ever need anything, just let me know! :)

We can do it!!

Success - Thanks :)

FeelingGooder - your right I need a plan. I think I may start a diary soon but getting all the calorie counting right isnt easy for me. i suck at math :( I will definitely put more thought into what im doing and maybe work in rewards.

Tik - Thanks you are very kind. I look forward to seeing your progress.

talk to you guys soon :seeya:

I hear ya on the calorie counting. I still haven't started counting calories yet myself. So far I've been concentrating on reducing the portion sizes and cut down on the snacking or at least limit it to fairly non-destructive snacks. I think there are a few people around here that have found a couple useful websites for calorie counting that lets them input their foods and gives them total calories.

Looking forward to your plan and progress. Sometimes I think the hardest part to most of this is making the decision to lose weight, coming up with a plan actually getting started.

Hey dude

Thanks for hitting my thread.

Counting calories and exercise (starting small and building) is what works best for me.

I gotta really count em because i don't do well if I just estimate.

I bet you can push toward that 200 mark pretty quickly.

Hi there,

I also find calorie counting really hard...but I have been doing it in steps.

Step 1: Make healthy choices...that's it! Just include healthier choices. If you want a burger, choose a chicken breast. If you want chips, choose air popped popcorn...if you want a pop, try water (or even diet)

Step 2: Watch portion sizes and number of meals. I have moved into eating on smaller plates and sitting down not in front of the TV to eat. Take your time eating, and after your down your plate, take a little while and then go back for me. Some times we eat too fast and then over eat...if we eat slower, your body has time to let it know you're full

Step 3: Count calories. If step 1 and 2 aren't getting you where you need to go, start counting calories. It's a bit more effort, but if you have gotten into the hang of making healthy choices, and watching your meal size, it will be a lot easier!

Good luck!
