Avoiding Catabolic State

Hoping someone can answer this. Have posted it in other boards with no good answer.

If one was to have a fruit (say and apple) in the morning before running, this would prevent a catabolic state and in turn result in the burning of fat during the run.

How long before you actually begin to burn muscle?? What triggers the body to stop burning fat? Is it time? or intensity? How long would the BCAA work to keep you from burning muscle?

Thanx

:D

Apples have a very high glycemic index, that is, they tend to cause a quick rise in blood sugar, which can trigger the body to store fat. If you are going to eat a fruit, maybe a grapefruit would be better: low glycemic index, lots of fluid. I usually eat a grapefruit after my workout. It seems to help in a quick recovery. Kind of like natures own Gatoraide.
