Average 18 year old looking to get into Shape for college and better lifestyle

Hey, I'm 18 years old. I weight about 139.5lbs and I am 5'6. I have muscles, like I dumbbell curl and bench and do pushups but I don't have a toned body or anything like that. I somehow still have "manboobs" but nothing bad at all, just not pecks, they don't connect in the middle of my chest so they kinda puff out, nothing bad at all but I want them to connect in the middle so It's an actual peck. I would also like to lose my gut, when I sit down I have a gut but I like the weight I am at right now so I don't know how to fix that. for the past 2 days I've been drinking 3-4 20oz water bottles throughout the day and have cut out junk food (besides small things like a pack of poptarts i had for breakfast). As for an overall goal, I would like to have a chiseled upper body/lower-ab area (the V-cut thing) and I'd like to have my pecks pretty toned so they're flat all the way across my chest in shirts and not puffy.

Edit: I also do cardio during soccer seasons, I play for two teams so I run a LOT; also soon to be on college soccer team so that should be a lot more cardio.

A PACK of poptarts for breakfast? Wow. Tell us what you eat in a typical day and we can go from there.

You are doing bicep curls for biceps. Bench press and push ups for pecs, ant. deltoid and triceps. What about the rest of your body?

The body works as a whole unit, so you must have a good diet and good full-body workout to be able to achieve the best results.

Sounds like your nutritional habits are awful. The only way you're every going to get the results you want is if you clean up your nutrition and start taking it seriously.

...and, lift heavy stuff.

I really appreciate your attempt. This is always nice to hear that a teen like you have cut out all junk foods and start drinking lots of water. But still you are doing something in wrong ways especially taking a pack of pop tarts in the breakfast!

If you want to get a tone body then you have to maintain a solid daily workout and diet plan. Just read out all of my advice with care:

• This may seem obvious, but some people either just don't get it, or they do but don't do it right. Start with 5 minutes of stretching, and then walk around the block, do as many pushups and crunches as you can. Then cool down again by stretching.

• If you have trouble starting an exercise routine, you can help by just getting off your butt. Instead of spending your free time on Face book, in front of the TV, or playing computer games, dance to upbeat music, play football with your friends, clean your rooms, rent workout DVDs from the library, get an active hobby or a pet! You will get exercise!

• There are so many sports out there; one must be perfect for you. One of the best sports for you to get involved in is swimming. It is a gentle exercise, and exercises your whole body.

• I know you drink lots of water. Believe it or not, this actually helps you lose weight; but the recommended amount of water to drink is 64oz. Though this may seem a lot, really it only comes down to 4 tall glasses of water, drink one when you get up, one when you come home from school or at lunch, one at dinner, and one at night. One way to know that you are getting enough water is if your pee is clear. You also should drink before, during, and after any sort of exercise, as you need to replace the water you lose in sweat.

• Reduce soda-drinking to no more than one or two a week. Sodas are full of sugars and empty calories that provide no nutritional value.

• One of the best ways to start is by eating a big breakfast. You may not realize it but your body just went 8 or more hours without food. If you don't eat, it will go into starvation mode, and you will overeat at lunch and dinner, then your body won't use all of it and will get fat. Also eat way more fruits and veggies than breads or meat. Eat fruit in moderation though, because it is naturally high in sugar. Stay away from over-processed foods, as they contain a lot of fat, sugar, and salt, and hardly anything good. Also, if you eat your big breakfast, it will kick your metabolism into high gear, giving you lots of energy, and you burn fat!

• Identify unhealthy habits. Many teens have and afternoon snack where eat things such as cookies, chocolate milk, ice-cream etc. Try to replace those foods with something healthy. Don't eat if you're not hungry.

Lastly I would like to suggest that like everything, this will take time, just be patient, you will get results.
