Article: Body Magic "Slimming" Undergarments..

I would think that people who say they don't care about looks, probably mean they don't care as much about looks if the person has a great personality etc. Looks probably come further down the list.

But I guess looks are important to some degree as it can demonstrate a part of a persons health, fitness and pride. Slimming garments are sometimes just used by some people who have the excess skin to tone themselves up.

And about spending hours getting ready...I am guilty of this. I feel beautiful out an about in just about anything but I enjoy the ritual of pampering myself when I have a night out with my husband, once in a blue moon when the children are out of sight.

Anyway, that's all I have to say.:Angel_anim:

I agree with you. Media sets standard of what is beautiful and not in selling products. They used the woman's insecurities to gain profits. Thus, they became richer and women feel uglier when the truth is we, women, just don't need these certain expensive brands and there's nothing wrong with us.

It's true. Looks ARE important. However, those "looks" are not a specifically defined set of rules for everyone (or anyone?). When I'm evaluating someone from the opposite sex, it's a total package sort of evaluation. Everything comes into play, and physical appearance is part of that (obviously not the first thing I'm looking for) ... but I've dated several guys and had successful relationships with men who look very, VERY different from one another. This says to me that attraction isn't by some specific "look" but more based on how their individual features compliment one another and how they compliment their personality. There is also something chemical that happens with attraction that is difficult to pinpoint a "common" trait which is the source.

I agree that society puts a lot of pressure on women to look a certain way. I think ALL women (and men?) get down on themselves about how they look sometimes. But with all things, these thoughts and feelings can be overcome if you don't buy into the bullshit. I bought a pair of Spanx body-shaping undergarments or whatever and wore it once. It didn't really make me feel smaller (nor was I assuming it really would) but it did make my shape look smoother, and with the outfit that I was wearing, it was nice to have that smoothness. But I didn't feel like I NEEDED to wear it either. It was more one of those things that you have to at least try once, ... haha. Anyway, if the girls buying these things are as big as I am, then I would ENCOURAGE them to buy them simply for the fact that getting my butt into one of them was probably one of the greatest resistance workouts of my LIFE. ;)

I don't think that any woman should feel like she needs something like that to look passable or in hopes to snag a man/date/one night stand. If you're a cool person, then regardless of what you look like, you'll be able to find love or whatever it is you're looking for ... it just takes some people longer than others. And that's okay, because a successful relationship is worth the wait.

Okay now that I've officially de-railed the discussion ... carry on. :coolgleamA:

I felt the same way...no undergarments I want to do it the natural way. What I learned is the body magic actually helps the postioning of the spine and internal organs so helps them to function better. I have worn it about 3 or 4 times and my lower back pain is gone. For that it is worth it. My cousin said it made her more regular and it is supposed to compress the fat and help flush it through your system. I do find the tightness less than comfy, but it does force you to maintain good posture...

The fact is people care more about looking good than being healthy and that is why ardyss is making millionaires in record breaking time.

I was recently at Lane Bryant buying some clothes for work (which are WAY too expensive, but your Walmarts and Targets only seem to have neon sweat pants and T-shirts with pastel kittens on them made for people my size, but I digress...) and could not help but notice the Spanx infomercial that was on a constant repeat loop playing on the TV by the register.

By the time it was my turn to pay I was convinced that Spanx were not only the answer to all of my problems, but also worthy of the sainthood. I've been craving something of that nature ever since... Not because I think people will suddenly not notice that I'm over 300 pounds, but because looking a bit slimmer might be the emotional boost I need to stick to a weight loss plan.

If these slimming garments were more affordable, I would own one. I would also own a BodyBugg, a Wii, a Wii Fit, and a gym membership with a personal trainer, but again - I digress... :toetap05:

I tried on my Spanx undergarment again today because after losing 16lbs. I was hopeful that I might be able to wear one of the cute Christmas sweaters that I haven't been able to wear since 2006-2007. I put the thing on and I was so irritated, because it basically just pushed my "apron" (you know what I mean, the fat right in front of your lower abs under your belly button that looks like you're smuggling steaks out of the grocery store in your pants) up into my stomach. So I wasn't actually smaller at all, in fact I was bigger around the waist and it made it more difficult to wear my pants properly because they didn't want to button.

I took the damn thing off, put my pants on just fine, and wore an 18/20 beautiful green sweater that hasn't fit me in nearly 3 years. I should have just trusted myself and tried the clothes on before second-guessing and thinking that I would need the undergarment to look good. It looked great -- not perfect, but I've lost enough weight where I want to show off my progress, even if it isn't perfect. It was definitely a bit of an eye-opener for me.

Spanx

I have never worn a Spanx, but my cousin has/does and she said the [spam] garment surpasses it by far. Bec it comes all the way up to you chest it keeps your spine inline and really smooths you out. Yes, they are not cheap...about 168 for the bodymagic, but for some people it is definitely worth it. men are even interested in the tshirts and stuff the have for men.

Several of the Spanx undergarments (including the one I have) come all the way up to the bust-line. The problem that I've found with the Spanx (and every shaping undergarment I've tried with the exception of camisols) is that it does the opposite of what I want it to do. I want my stomach to look flat and smooth, and while the undergarments do add some smoothness, it looks like my lower belly fat is just being shifted up around my belly-button area. I just end up looking pregnant and not really smaller.

I guess my rule of thumb now is, if a garment so tight that I feel like I NEED a shaping undergarment to give me the right shape, I probably shouldn't be wearing said garment in the first place.

Amen!! hehe, this made me laugh!

While, yes this may be true, my friend came to visit me and tried on a body magic garment and was sold right away. she was ready to order on the spot. The garment smooths everything out and lifts busts and butt. Just search for b4 and afters. Even if the clothes are not too tight, the body magic just makes you look better in whatever you are wearing. The great benefit for me is it helps my back pain and I have only worn it 5 or so times over the last 2 to 3 weeks. That is worth more to me than the reshaping.
